Long story short - told boss I was pregnant, baby died in 5th month, then diagnosed with blood disorder, doctor said not to return to work for about 6 months. Gave boss dr's note, he said it was unacceptable, told me I was a liar, that I was the reason that he had to work every weekend for the last 4 months, and that I had to apologize to him for sending him a letter explaining the seriousness of my disease and letting him know that I was disappointed that after 8 years' of service, my situation was handled with such a lack of sensitivity. Boss doubted my baby's age at death, and said so in his letter to me. Hence my reply, which I was asked to apologize for. Told him no way, just stating the facts and my feelings - then was told "this discussion is over", I replied "I get the impression I am not welcome here anymore", he replied, "no you're not, now get out of here, you're not welcome here anymore". I filed complaint with labour board, and now he denies everything - priceless!

Regardless of the validity of your absence and tragedy (I say regardless because it makes no bearing on your case), the interesting thing is that You raised the status of employment with him and not vice versa. Your boss didn't initiate the "Not Welcome Dialog" you did. Also, although your boss was insensitive and and obnoxious jerk, he never said you are fired. When you raised the question of not being welcome, he agreed with you. When he told you to get out of here did he mean his office, or the company. Its going to be difficult for you to prove termination, unless you simply return to work. If he didn't fire you and you never quite, then you still have your job. If you return to work, despite not being welcome, he will have 3 options, 1 - let you work, 2 - tell you you no longer have a job because you were fired/let go etc., or 3 - state that you quit and have no job. If he claims #3, ask for proof. If he claims number 2, then you have your answer. If he lets you return to work, you will be miserable, but employed.

Even if you weren't fired, I would quit. Your boss could cause problems in the future and it's best to stay away. I'm sure you can find another job with more savory characters to work for.

Yes, you were fired. You should also retain your own attorney NOW. Without one, you won't get anything from the labor board.

I'd talk to a lawyer.

You should at least be entitled to a severance pay.

But yes, I would say you were fired, unfairly, but fired.

yes you were but you should have a case with the labor board for unlawful termination so dont give up persue it
