I do my best to commemorate December 7th every year by watching Tora, Tora, Tora!. On Veteran's & Memorial Days & call my uncle whom was in the European theater 1942-45, & thank him for his efforts & sacrifice. He gave me a book of letters written by soldiers home. The book has his name prinied on the front. Inside he gave me some photos of him from the war. I told him & my aunt WWII is a hobie of mine. They said they now now where to send all of my uncle's WWII suff.

Sure I have some thoughts on this historical event.
By the number of times it is asked here in the History Category of Yahoo! Answers - I would say there are many who still do not understand the significance of the event.
Also, when any one event, like the attack on Pearl Harbor or any one person like Adolf Hitler, receives an excessive amount of attention - it is usually at the expense of understanding the many other events (and people) that occurred in the same region at the same time and make up what we know as History.
Sincerely,
J.S.

I am a member of your generation: I'm 73.
And sadly, very sadly, it impacts us now very little, if in any meaningful way at all.
Americans who were not alive then, have no idea how it impacted this nation then.
And all the veterans of that conflict, are nearly all dead now; those who aren't, will be so in a few yeas a most.
In my view, America reached its "spiritual, evolutionary zenith" during the war; and has been on a steady decline ever since. It seems we were like a young sports star, who couldn't handle his success and consequent fame; and resorted to drugs, eventually destroying himself.

P.S.- I posted a question today regarding Pearl Harbor, if you would care to reference it.

I'm 16, and I believe it's sad because Pearl Harbor isn't as remembered as it used to be, so I hear. It's sad that something like this is slowly forgotten, someday, unfortunately, I feel great tragedies of my time (9/11) will be forgotten as well.

Well, the yank authorities received many warnings about the attack, but like today, they were sure that those miserable, non white, short, yellow foreigners could do something important. Much less attack the powerful USA
