I've spent the last year of my life researching the HPV vaccine--I am a political theorist and sociologist, so my research has mostly fallen into this realm, but I have had to be well versed in Merck's studies and things.) Of course, no drug is guaranteed 100% safe (look at Vioxx) but it is overwhelmingly likely that an FDA-approved drug, especially one with extensive clinical trials, is fine. ALthough you may already be sexually active, the HPV shot is a good idea, even if you are already diagnosed with HPV. There are several different strains of this virus, and the strains that Gardasil protects against cause 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts cases, so it may be that you have not been infected with these exact strains.
Although the vaccine is approved for girls as young as 9, the studies conducted by Merck and other independent research groups were performed on 15 year olds and up. If you are under 15, there is reason to doubt the efficacy, but seeing as how you are already sexually active, I would assume and hope you are at least 15, and recommend the shot to you and your friends.

I did a search and found NO results that is has killed anybody. That's just a rumor.
Drugs, like the Gardasil shot, have to be vigorously tested to be used on humans. The shot has probably existed for many, many years going through various tests.
I have had all three shots (it's a series of three shots over a span of several months.) The shots can hurt, a tiny bit, as the fluid is rather thick, but the pain is only slight. I'm not dead yet. I've had no complications but a sore arm for a day. It's 100% safe. Why would the medical community push the shot if it wasn't safe??
Edit: You say that you are sexually active, so you might not be able to get the shot? The whole point is to get the shot if you are sexually active to prevent you from getting HPV which can cause cervical cancer.

No it's not safe it causes cancer and has so many long term side affects, I don't care what the doctors are telling you or what their commercials say. It's very very bad for you I advice you not to take it unless your positively stupid and want cancer. Don't listen to any of the crap that your being told about it from the Internet or off TV. Believe me I wouldn't be saying this about it if I didn't know what I was talking about, your less likely to not get cancer if you don't get the vaccine.

Nope it is not safe.
There are NO long term affects done regarding this vaccine.
AND, it might not even prevent the four forms of cervical cancer it says it will prevent!
There needs to be more long term studies done before I'd even consider it for anyone of age.

Of course it's safe and of course they tested it. The Government would not put out a vaccination that wasn't tested and that wasn't safe, that would just be stupid, do you realize how many lawsuits there would be?
I've gotten all 3 shots and I've had no side effects so far.
