a D & C.
D&C stands for dilation and curettage. The procedure involves dilating the cervix and scraping the lining of the uterus. Your doctor may order a D&C if you have had an incomplete miscarriage.

A miscarriage is wherein the being pregnant leads to the dying of the fetus earlier than the youngster is possible - in general 24 weeks gestation and is both spontaneously ejected by way of the frame or needs to be eliminated surgically. The different time period for that is 'spontaneous abortion' 'Abortion' is the time period used whilst the mum makes a decision to finish the being pregnant for scientific or individual factors and the youngster's lifestyles is then terminated by way of medications and the contents of the uterus eliminated surgically or, if early on, spontaneous evacuation of the uterus by way of artifically triggered contractions.

I was actually planning on termination, but I had a miscarriage before the appointment for that.
The miscarriage is not done yet.
It started as bleeding and cramping..I went to ER and they checked me to confirm miscarriage. They did a blood test, a regular ultrasound on my belly, and they did some physical looking around in there....
Then they gave me a referral to some place and they said since it was documented that I wanted to terminate, I just had to wait for it to come out naturally, or wait until my abortion appointments (few weeks in the future).
I want a D&C done to get it all out because I've heard it can be dangerous to leave it in there (because its dead...). So I called them back and now they will see me this Monday and check me out and choose which course of action to take. Either a pill to speed up the process, book me for a D&C, wait for abortion appointment, or wait for it to come out itself and go back to emerg if there's any extreme plain/cramping in the mean time.
Now i have to wait til Monday to see what they will say is best for me. They said it will be a "pro" pretty much doing the same tests all over again...(mentioned at the top) just better than the emerg people...
Hopefully this is what you were looking for!

If the whole fetus is still in the uterus they do a D&E (dilation and evacuation). Under full anaesthetic they dilate the cervix and suck out the contents (sucking causes less damage than full scraping might). It doesn't hurt. Afterwards they tell you to expect a few days of period-like cramping and bleeding.
If this is something you or a loved one are going through you have all my sympathy. I had one today and I am devastated.

It's called a D&C like the others have said. It is not an abortion at all. If a woman is much farther along and the fetus dies in utero she actually has to be induced to go through labor, unless something else is wrong and then a c-section would have to be done.

They call it a D and C when they scrape your uterus to get the remnants of the fetus. it is not called an abortion.

They take the baby out, but they put you out for it. I'm sorry to hear about this. I had one in 2001.
