When a ring of red lights appears on your Xbox 360, it is a sign that the system is broken and no longer usable. Often, this is due to hardware failure, particularly poor venting, so the system overheats.

Basically, the Xbox 360 is a bit fragile, and breaks a bit easy, so there's a reputation for failure.

The Red Ring of Death is a hardware failure issue with the Xbox 360 consoles. Basically, whenever it happens, you have to send in the Xbox to Microsoft. The Xbox 360's failure rate is around 33%. If you want to get a console and not worry about hardware failure, get the PS3 or Wii.

Until Microsoft fixes the problem 100%, I recommend not buying a Xbox 360. Microsoft will replace/fix the Xbox 360 for up to 3 years for free.

The Ring Of Death is the three red lights you see flashing at the circle that surrounds the 'on' button. Basically, this means that an critical hardware failure has happened. The main cause of this is overheating. My friend has an 360 that was alive for over 1 year before it obtained the Ring Of Death. Its because of overheating. His father fixed it and is alive for 5 years total today. Another cause is something that was wrecked totally. Maybe its the motherboard,or the hard drive. This was all because of rushed production and release to the open marked that gave it an year ahead of others but gained a lot of problems. And also, to secure this part, they created the 360 over a period of 3 months. 3 months! They are sooo quick. As long as Microsoft did not fix the Ring of Death, I better go for the PS3.

The "Ring of Death" will basically render your Xbox 360 unusable. This is mainly attributed to a poor design and rushed product into the open market. The Ring of Death is marked by 3 flashing red lights on the ring of your Xbox 360 console (the ring that surrounds the "on" button).

Usually this is caused by overheating or poor handling of your 360. Make sure your Xbox is placed in a cool well-ventilated area to avoid this untimely death of your console.

The ring of death is where your Xbox 360 dies and you have to call 1800formyxbox go through tons of bs and finally they send you a box within 4-7 days and you will receive a newly refurbished and used Xbox 360 and unplugging your av cables give you them, but doesn't count.

Three red lights on the Xbox 360 indicator, representing "general hardware failure", known by gamers as the infamous "red ring of death". It basically is a hardware failure usually because of over-heating
