How old is he and how long exactly have you have him? What kind is he. If you just got him in the last couple of days, then he might just be adjusting to a new environment, make sure his water is warm enough for his breed and try another food (like krill). However, if he is a Slider, they don't eat this time of year, so that isn't a big concern, the not opening the eyes can mean trouble tho. Hope the little guy gets better, I have 8 turtles, different species, great pets!

Where would a slider get apples or carrots in the wild? Young sliders eat meat until they get too big and slow to chase it as well anymore. Try a mix of 1/2 good pellets* and 1/2 live or frozen/thawed 'fish foods' like small fish, insects, worms, shrimp, krill, etc. Good pellets are things like ReptoMin, Mazuri, T-Rex, etc. A lot of cheaper foods are bad for the turtle.

If it really is an emergency the first, quickly fill up your bath tub, put him in it, he could be dried out! If you can try sticking little fish like baby gold fish in there with him, that will encourage him to eat, Then if that does not help he could have a case of I can'[t remember what it's called but take him to a vet, or a pet store where someone knows alot about reptiles. I'm sure he'll be okay so don't worry too much. Remember to keep it warm though, that is thier natural climateGood luck. Lol, it's also winter time though, well in the us anyways, it is very likely that he is hibernating! Oh listen to jduck1979, he knows what he is talking about.

Did you find the turtle in the wild? If you did it could be incredibly afraid of you and the new environment you introduced it to. It might take a while for the turtle to adjust to his new habitat, but it may get sick in the mean time. I would call a vet if I was you just to make sure you don't end up with a dead turtle.

Turtles are odd pets, so don't expect the worst. I hope someone is able to help you with an answer, if not do a little more searching on the internet.
Good Luck, and I wish you and your liddo turtle the best (:

Depending on what part of the world your in (particularly one that's cold this time of year), he could be hibernating.... I know Tortoises' do , so could be possible Turtles do something similar when it gets too cold for them.
Keep it warm, and check with your local vet.
Check out the site I found (if you not found it yourself already)

We've had a turtle for 6 years, and the first year we had him he tried to hibernate. In the environment we had then, hibernation probably would have killed him. Like others have said, keep him warm, give him enough water to swim in and someplace to climb out onto when he wants, and guppies work well for ours! He loves them!

you should leave the food in the tank for about 1 hour, and clear the tank again. you can't leave the food in the water, whether it eats it or not. weeks later it'll get used to it and it may eat food from your hand. =) don't worry, just make sure he is warm and put rocks and water in the tank for it to swim, and rest. =)
by the way, where do you keep your terrapins? in a tank or an aquarium? an aquarium would be better, but mine is kept in a small tank, their doing fine!

Turtles need to be warm (75-80 deg F) to be active.
If that and some time don't get him moving, there might be something wrong.

If it is a baby it probably won't open its eye till about 3 weeks. Or if it an adult it will probably just be sleeping, Or in shock, depressed or maybe very ill. Go see a vet.
