but we can trade with every other friggin communist country on the planet, plus all the wealthy dudes (and some chicks) illegaly smoke their cigars???!!!

i was stationed in cuba, i know all about the crisis, russia and other communist countries have had missles aimed at us for years, and it was russia that sent the missles to cuba!!!

Basically, three reasons:
a) there is still a politically powerfull "old guard" of Cuban -Americans who help keep Florida a Red state--and they still think Castro is the devil incarnate since he threw them and their dictatorship out (true, he's no better, but that's not the point).
b)the American sugar caartel make sbilllions off of inflated prices because they don't have to compete in a free market.
c) Bush and the right-wing have made a religious belief out of "Castro and Communisim in Cuba must be undermined" (and there's not enough profit--for them--in Cuba to overcome this, as there is with China).
One thing that is NOT a reason-though it is the justification that is offered--is that the embargo is intended to weaken the Castro regime. Well, they've been trying that for 45 years and it still doesn't work. And what does that mean? Albert Einstein said it best: "Insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Yes, we can still trade with other communist countries. The reason we still can't trade with Cuba is that the government does not want to be seen as "backing down" from the embargo and thus embarrass itself.

Cuba doesn't want to trade with the United States. Even if the US government wanted to, Cuba wouldn't. Fidel Castro hates everything about America.

Other countries did not try to house missiles aimed at the US like Cuba did. Look up the Cuban missile crisis.

Because America doesnt wanna look weak if they lift the embargo but in my mind it would make us look stronger and smarter for doing so and Chris your wrong Castro dosnt hate America just the way our government is ran the man offered to send doctors to help after Katrina and our government said nope to hell with your help.

We trade w/ countries we are at war with none of it makes sense. Our goverment makes no sense anymore! I'm leaving to my homeland soon i can't morally pay one more tax dollar
