They are polar opposites.
Class - fascists support the existence of social classes, communists do not.
Nationalism - Fascists are nationalists, communists are internationalists
State - fascists worship the state, communists want the state to dissolve after socialism has been developed.
Currency/Capital - fascists want to keep it, communists envisage a society without it.
There are plenty more differences but these are the main ones.

The way I see it Communism is an ideology that promotes establishment of a classless, stateless social organization based on common ownership of the means of production, were as Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers individual and social interests subordinate to the interests of the state. Fascists seek to forge a type of national unity, usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, racial, and religious attributes. Their both fairly complex but from what Ive always thought, communism is a idea of pure equality to the point that it makes you sick & fascism is the state comes first beyond all else including its people. I honestly think they both could work but the people of the past & present have used it in either a bad way or did it wrong.

The word 'Communism' refers to various systems of beliefs and practices that goes back hundreds if not thousands of years. At the dawn of the 19th century, there were many religious societies in the US that were called 'communist', today only a few survive, but the Amish at that time would have been called 'communist'. In this sense, communism is keeping things in common and sharing the wealth.
Marx took communism to be the end stage of capitalism, since capitalism would self destruct. Lenin imagined an intermediary form called 'socialism', and labeled his new state "The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics". For Lenin, communism was an ideal.
It wasn't long until the Cold War redefined communism into what most people know it today - the system of government practiced by the Soviet Union, North Korea and so on. These governments were dictatorships, and since party members ended up owning firms, there was little theoretical difference to their enemies, the fascists.
Fascism, in theory, is the state as an agent for a corporate agenda. In Germany, the state guaranteed monopoly contracts and helped solidify the corporate state. In the US, as well as Europe, the state busted unions and persecuted minorities to develop nationalism. In the US and Europe, the state intervened militarily on behalf of corporations, much like our recent invasion of Iraq to control it's oil fields.

Communism is when the government owns all the property and the rights to goods and services for the so-called good of the people or the nation. No one person has more property or rights to good and services than the next person. The theory is that this will stop greed, or "killing someone for a nice car" ( since every one while essentially be equal in terms of monetary value ), and many other man made afflictions against humanity.
Fascism is a belief in a Superior race and way to life and your right to conquer anyone who opposes you and or that ideology. As a thought that race, nation-state is above everything not associated with it's purposes. The outcome becomes a totalitarian.
Both are brutal forms of government that never achieve their warped theories.

with communism the state owns all business. with fascism, the state allows private ownership, but it is tightly controlled and regulated by the government. when a business fails in communism, the government employed manage gets shot. when a privately owned business fails under fascism due to stupid government rules and regulations, the owner shoots himself
