In middle aged and older adults, nosebleeds can begin from the septum, but they may also begin deeper in the nose's interior. This latter form of nosebleed is much less common. It may be caused by hardened arteries or high blood pressure. These nosebleeds begin spontaneously and are often difficult to stop. They require a specialist's help.

The most common cause of anterior nosebleeds is dry air. A dry climate or heated indoor air irritates and dries out nasal membranes, causing crusts that may itch and then bleed when picked. Colds and other viruses may also irritate the lining of the nose. Bleeding may occur after repeated blowing. When you combine a cold with dry winter air, you have the perfect formula for nosebleeds.

Allergies may also cause problems, and a doctor may prescribe medications such as antihistamines or decongestants to control an itchy, runny, or stuffy nose. This can also dry out the nasal membranes and contribute to nosebleeds.

If you experience frequent nosebleeds, make an appointment with your doctor. You may need to have the blood vessel that's causing your problem cauterized. Cautery is a technique in which the blood vessel is burned with electric current, silver nitrate or a laser. Sometimes your doctor may pack your nose with special gauze or an inflatable latex balloon to put pressure on the blood vessel and stop the bleeding.

Also call your doctor if you are experiencing nasal bleeding and are taking blood thinners, such as aspirin or warfarin (Coumadin). Your doctor may advise adjusting your medication.

Your father should make an appointment with an ear, nose and throat specialist. Frequent nosebleeds can be the symptoms of a number of conditions, some as minor as dry nose and others far more serious.

there are numerous causes for nose bleeds, most common are dry nasal tissues or picking your nose.
Get him some Nasal nose spray, it's just a mild saline solution that will moisturize his nasal passages and keep them from bleeding. If that doesn't work, time to see a doctor.

He could have high blood pressure, but either way he needs to see a doctor soon because having nose bleeds is not normal! (Frequently)

There is an inexpensive saline nasal spray that is sold at the drugstore over the counter. It helps keeps the inside of the nose moist which helps prevent nosebleeds. It has no side effects because it's just saltwater.

Well it is heating season and once the furnace kicks on, the humidity is sucked right out of the air. He should try a saline solution nose spray to see if that helps

Might be that, might be sinus problems/infections.

Might be many things.

Encourage him to go and see a doctor for it.

Is it from both sides or just one. If it is one then there is no need to worry but it may need cauterizing this is done by the doctor and is quite simple. If it is both sides it is above the nose bridge but still nothing to worry about and may need the doctor, if he has lost a couple of pints of blood then he needs urgent treatment.

If you live in a cold climate, it's probably the dry heat and the dry cold air. You can put some water into the air by boiling water, or by using a vaporizer.

Could be high blood pressure. He may want to go to the doctor and check it out. I don't know how old he is but its best to check as you get older.
