I'm looking for dieting/excercise tips to lose weight and increase muscle tone, specifically around my stomach and "love handles". I do crunches daily but this isn't enough i guess. Or I simply need to lose the fat before the muscle shows. help?

I would also change what you eat...
Eat a healthy nutritious diet (organic when you can), avoid anything white ( sugar, flour, rice & fast foods) & drink lots of water. I would do an exercise program you will stick with & con't doing...remember it took your body a while to get the this point...be patient with yourself.

Try Pilate's -- that'll help you tone and tighten around your waist, hits, butt, thighs, etc. I like Windsor Pilate's -- there's an old 20 minutes workout that is the bomb. You do all the exercises while lying on the floor, and you'll see a difference in a week if you do them at least 3 or 4 times in the 7 days. Bear in mind that muscle is heavier than fat, and the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn. Try walking for at least 20 minutes a day. Once you've done it a while, you can add ankle weights, and even carry light hand weights (like 2 lbs. each) while you walk. Also, you will burn more calories and boost your metabolism if you add spurts of fast walking that alternates with a more moderate speed. I wear a headset and every 3rd song I'll walk it fast, then switch back to moderate for a couple songs, and keep alternating --- 2 slower, 1 fast. If you have trouble losing weight ( and this could be a peri-menopause thing going on if you're 30 or over) you may need help boosting your metabolism. I used a diet supplement called Nutri something (the mind is going .. sorry) but I only took one bottle of them and followed the diet guideline to the letter and it worked like a charm! Got the weight off that I wanted, and have kept it off by watching what I eat. Good luck!

Your details (despite your title) say nothing about wanting to lose weight fast, which is good, because it's unhealthy! The safest is 2 pounds a week at the most. Cut your calories and get out there and lift some weights and do some cardio. The pounds will fall off. Sometimes though, a person's body is designed to be a certain weight naturally, and while you may lose weight, depending on your bone structure or what not, you might not get to the weight you WANT. You should see a nutritionist or trainer to help you out in this area.
