I have 98 chevy pu 1/2 ton 4X4 with 5.7 ltr V8. Going down road all of a sudden loss of power. Put in neutral and kill engine and then runs fine for a few minutes then does again. Have replaced fuel pump, coil, rotor, dist. cap plug wires, spark plugs, fuel filter. Still doing same thing. Any suggestions?

It is a possibility that the gas tank cap is not venting properly. Try removing the gas cap and drive for several miles or however long you think you need to see if the same problem happens again. If it doesnt, then replace the gas tank cap. If it is the gas cap, be sure that you get the correct replacement for your model year vehicle.

Standard answers are fuel pump, fuel filter, but I hear from a guy I know about something very similar to this, and you'll not believe what it was. The guy has a truck that would lose acceleration power and not seem to run right. Turns out he had a chain hung on the bumper and it would swing and hit the metal of the bumper. This is normally fine and OK, but the engine knock sensor was detecting the chain hit the bumper and thought the engine was pinging and retarded the timing, causing a loss of power. just something to think about, could be about anything.

Sounds like a fuel filter- double check your installation.
