Provided you have a working internet connection and modem:

set it like this.
World (internet connection) --> Modem. --> Linksys. ))) Dell.

Now. When you first open your linksys, it came out of the box with a default SSID and a default IP address.
with linksys it is usually Linksys-something and located at ip 192.168.1.1

set your computer to receive DHCP and use the wireless to connect to the strongest linksys signal you can find using what ever scan utility you use. (windows has a built in one)
once connected enter 192.168.1.1 in to the url bar of a web browser and you will find yourself at a web site which is contained in your router.
log in with the default username and password.
(usually this is admin / admin or maybe even (no user name) / admin
The web configuration is usually pretty easy.
you want to serve DHCP
you want to encrypt the thing somehow, and you want to change the user name and password.
The WAN side should really come up automatically.

good luck
