I object to this treaty on several fronts...not only from the points made (obviously conservative politics) but also from the point of view that the US thinks they have the right to board any ship anywhere if the "think there are drugs on it"...that is a very large scapegoat to board any vessel! Perhaps it is time the US tended to its own business a little better and stopped worrying so much about everyone else. we are doing a miserable job here at home under this administration. Phil

Is America going back tothe Monreo Doctrine after taking the lead in espablishment of UNO and doing whatever was necessay for the purpose. In fact USA had identiied itself with UNO so much as to appear that it was a national organisationl. We have voluntarily agreed to surrender our soveirignty in respect of matters deided by the UNO(leaving of course the Right to Veto to the Securith Counsil of which we were a prominent member) The proposed legislation is basically intended to intercept the traffic in drugs and other psychlotropic substances. These have assumed frightening proportions and unless we lay this ghost it would lay all of us.Perhaps the worst sufferers are us in the USA. We should, thereofre, not equatei it with restrictions on our sovereignty and wholehearted support. I will.I am a citisen of USA but more than that I am a citisen of the world.

Interesting how "left-wing democrats" are blamed for this. There have been several attempts to pass this bill for over 30 years...by members of Congress on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Unfortunately, in our new "global economy" which has been adapted and supported by all presidents and many from Congress for years has led to this bill and many other things that have reduced our soveriegnty... It is much too late now to stop it. Interesting how nobody gave a dam about it in the past when corporations and manufacturing were shutting down in the U.S. and moving to Mexico or India or the Phillipines. No one cared that American workers were losing jobs to outsourcing on a national scale.

No one cared that we were paying farmers and agribusiness subsidies for NOT growing crops....while importing more food products from foreign shores.

No one cared when Arab countries started investing heavilly in our banks and industry; in expensive real estate. They practically own our economy....and, if they ever call in the loans they have made to us, we will all be speaking Arabic..they will own us lock, stock and barrel.

So, it is much too late to get in a flap over this treaty. It is going to be a done deal... We, the people, have sat on our butts and not raised hell over what has been happening for 30 years...we didn't give a darn..we were too busy pleasing ourselves with all the foreign made, cheap merchandise, foreign made cars, farm equipment, clothing, appliances.

It's time to pay the piper. We are no longer self-sufficient. We depend on other nations to feed us, clothe us, make our cars, toys, grown our food... This bill is just another nail in the coffin....

The link provided is somewhat skewed in that it reflects the views of a special interest group. This one gives a more unbiased/non political look at the Treaty...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Convention_on_the_Law_of_the_Sea

And Yes, I support the Law of the Sea Treaty

I also wanted to make note of something in the original link...sorta rankled me, as it is not really true...I lived for many years in the District of Columbia and its citizens have never enjoyed taxation WITH representation...only taxation!

"It happened because Americans have never taken kindly to taxation without representation "

Thank you for providing this link. I have been following this issue for some time now. If this passes it will be one more step in removing America's sovereignty. We have already lost enough.
