We have a butternut tree, but we don't eat the nuts. I just found out that I have a nutcase to store them though.

Edit: Morgan, a butternut tree is a type of walnut tree I believe. The nuts are covered in a green shell when they drop. The shell is very sticky. But, if you dry the nuts, you can eat the inside. I've just never taken the time to dry. They grow throughout the Midwest, but I'm not sure about the rest of the country.

Nuts? HMMMMMMMMMMM,
I have several oak trees. And this year like last year they did not produce any nuts. And by some strange coincidence my favorite American Black Walnut trees didn't produce any nuts either. Not even 1. Further searching through the woods I did encounter 2 old reliable Am. Black walnut trees. I did get some off of those. As to hickory nuts no problem, same with butternut trees. But I find it puzzling with the oak trees. My friends say they have noticed a similar occurrence.

Attention SKY: acorns are nuts. They grow on Oak trees. No I didn't have any this year or last.

I too have a butter nut tree by my house and when the wind blows it sounds like an army is marching across the roof. I picked up half a trash can full a couple of weeks ago. The squirrels around here have stashes all over the place.

Excuse me, but isn't this somewhat of a personal question? OH....those kinds....well, used to have a huge Hickory Pecan that gave up baskets of nuts once a year..great pecan pie! Had a black Walnut that bore heavily, but green walnuts stink and stain...nasty nuts, but the wood is worth a fortune, and the Black Walnut tree is all but extinct as a result...these tress are stolen with great regularity from woods and private property...so if you have one, I suggest you attach an alarm to it so if it is bothered, a loud alarm goes off. I have 5 pecan trees. I get a good crop every other year. I was due a good crop this year but we had a late freeze that retarded the growth so I didn't get even one nut.
