Difference Between a Laptop and a Notebook
Source: http://whitecapcomputer.com/newsletter/articles/notebook_vs_laptop.htm

Laptop computers are somewhat larger than notebooks and will accommodate a built-in disk drive unit and; optionally, a floppy drive unit. That is, a CD ROM drive is either built into the unit or the unit has a built-in bay that will accommodate a removable CD ROM drive.
Notebook computers will allow you to attach, via cable, a CD ROM drive. Since the drive is not built into the unit, notebooks are smaller and lighter than laptops. Hence, a notebook is an ultra small laptop. Another way to look at it is a notebook is about the size (or a little larger than) of a real [binder] notebook.
Deskbook computers often refer to mobile computers that can be considered as desktop replacement units. Deskbooks tend to be larger and heavier than average notebook/laptop computers. Generally the display units are 15 inches or larger. They tend to draw down battery power relatively quickly due to their powerful, but power-hungry, processors. If you are looking for the power of a desktop unit, with the freedom of mobility, then a deskbook may fit the bill.
Tablet PCs are mobile computers with a twist. That is, you can literally twist the monitor. Being a Tablet means that the display screen will swivel on its base - usually 360 degrees. They generally allow you to capture handwriting and store it on the computer. Tablets are no more mobile than any other laptop or notebook.

These days there's no difference. Used to be there were sub-notebooks such as the Toshiba Libretto and the Samsung Izzy but the market evaporated.

Hi
I have a laptop which I use for work and a notebook which I use for pleasure. The functionality of both are exactly the same. The only difference is my notebook is quite a bit smaller than my laptop. Its much cuter and girly ! Other than that - they work in exactly the same way.

There is no difference between the two. Simply two different terms that can be used interchangings. Marketing companies will often use Notebook for computers they want to portray as professional and Laptop for computers target at home users. Note that you should never sit your computer directly on your lap while using it.

Notebooks do not have many of the same things you can do with a laptop. They are... junk in my opinion.

all portable computers are a notebook/laptop (names are interchangeable). People started getting away from calling them Laptops when it was realized that the underside of a "laptop" get hot and in the lap is really not a good place to use one.

Laptops save more energy are bigger than notebooks. Notebooks have a fan on the bottom so they heat up faster and have a special touch and lanch feature so you don't have to click something to open something up.

The only difference I think could differentiate them is you can have notebooks with screens that swivel and are called tablet notebooks and probably notebooks are smaller than laptops.

Hope this helps and have a nice weekend. ;)
