A person's credit history is a pretty good indication of their moral character. A good history tells them that you can tell yourself "NO" when it is appropriate. In other words, it means you have self control and a mature attitude, and they can trust you with their assets.

How you handle your credit is a good indicator of your self discipline and how you handle your personal affairs. Some jobs place you in a potentially compromising situation, such as law enforcement. Another example would be a position where you would handle information of a confidential nature. If someone has a bad credit history, then they could really be tempted to betray the employers trust for the right price.

Not many companies do this, but for those that do, how you conduct your own personal finances gives an indication to a potential employer how you will conduct *their* business transactions. This is especially true of companies in the financial sector.

Apparently many companies think that anyone with bad credit is of poor character. Credit checks are getting out of hand, you can't do anything anymore without a credit check, they even base your car insurance rate based on your driving and credit history, what does credit have to do with driving safely?

the lame excuse they use is to determine who might have financial problems, thus being a higher risk to steal at work. the reality of the situation is that big brother is alive and well and invading your privacy at every turn.

I don't know for sure, but I've heard some do. I've had same job for many years, so haven't applied anywhere.
