Becuase frankly I don't get it.
I think He's amazingly overrated
Before you go off on a tirade, I have heard all of
"Nebraska"
"Darkness On the Edge Of Town"
"Rorn To Run"
"Born In The USA"
&
"The River"
I remain throughly underwhelmed
And this guy is supposed to be one of the greatest rockers ever?
Exactly why?

Finally ~ someone who agrees with me!

Ok, I will make an exception for these songs :~

Dancing in the Dark
Streets of Philadelphia

But other than those, I have never understood what is so great about him. Like, everyone goes on about how it was Bruce who wrote 'Blinded By the Light'. Well, I know that, but his original sounds awful!

I'm personally not a fan, but his lyrics speak to the classic "everyman," working-class people. That appeals to a large demographic.

Also, I have heard that he is an amazing live performer and that he used to play 5-7 hour shows when he was younger! There is something to be said for someone who can hold a crowd for more than 45 mins. You rarely find that kind of charisma and star power in today's manufactured-music market.

Well, since you didn't say it, I will. Springsteen is a terrible vocalist. I have always been surprised by people who think he is better than average. It's like the "Emperor's Clothes", what I hear is crap..... Springsteen is a "Huey Lewis" style of New Jersey music that I really can't call rock 'n roll.

There are other successful singers who sing terrible, like Dylan or Tom Petty; Springsteen is a great songwriter, his songs sound better when other people cover them.

The reason for Springsteen's enormous popularity- the music industry is always looking for a Christ figure, in music, someone they can worship. Dylan didn't want it and it was given to Springsteen; later Bono seized it and Bruce has been in the shadows, ever since.

Just the music. The band. The man is a rock star. No matter what he looks like. Ric Okasac Lyle Lovet Billy Joel? All with Super Uma models as wives... not to mention Jagger. Musicians are sexy as heck.

Springsteen I always like the guitar mix and his rhythm sections. Like Born in the USA. Each note! yeah, the sound of music that's it for me !! Thanks.

I remember being really excited the first time I heard Born To Run. I thought whew, this guy is gonna be somethin. (And of course he did go on to really be somethin)

I've seen his live show twice.

I think with Bruce, ya kinda have ta read up and try to get to know him. He recently did an interview for 60 minutes that I found to be intriguing. (It's online) I actually like who he is better than his songs.

He appeals to the average baby-boomer, small town American person. His music is patterned to take on non-abrasive topics and keep the now older baby boomers happy because he is just like them.

I like a few of his songs but only from his very early years.

Oooooo Bruce ! Bruce ! Bruce ! This is a skinny guy from (God forbid) New Jersey who had talent and made it big. He is the American (pipe) dream !

Have you ever been to one of his concerts? I've been to one. 1982. All concerts before and since pale in comparison to this amazing and talented artist, performer, musician (who actually took HEED when someone described him as scrawny, and proceeded to lift weights and buff out a little -- cuz he WAS scrawny !)

I'm sorry you are underwhelmed. I can't convince you of something you can't feel. :(

For me, Bruce rocks.

i don't know how to explain it exactly, but i could always relate to most of his songs. plus, Bruce & the E Street Band had a different sound. the Jersey Sound is the only way i can descibe it. southside johnny and the asbury jukes had it, and so did john cafferty & the beaver brown band. there's just something about that sound, can't desribe it, but you know it when you hear it.

It's all down to personal taste. Like everything in life, you either love him or hate him. I'm not a fan of his either but i do accept that he is popular. Just because he sold out a 60,000 seat venue and sold 50 million records doesn't mean he's any good, it just means he's popular.

I live in Jersey I still don't get his appeal. My Boss at Great Adventure was one of his roadies back in the 1970/80's.He's told me horror stories about him. He's a real jerk-off from what he's told me.In fact my boss sued him for a couple million dollars, and won(For back pay from touring). So much for being for the working guy.He should also shut and sing,he needs to stay out of politics.
