Having a scientific mind I endeavoured to carry out a controlled experiment into this phenomena.
To get the full effect I determined that it would be neccesary to pull a bin liner over my whole body, tie it up from the inside and then, 'tread on a Mallard'.
The results were inconclusive, this may be because I am claustrophobic and decided to light a match at the same time.
The outcome of my clinical investigation will therefore be postponed until both the kitchen has been re-decorated and my eyebrows grow back!

Because all of the air is trapped in the bag and doesn't have enough room to spread the fart smell everywhere. :)

lol.. someone farted in a cookie tin at a party and handed it to a girl who totally expected to wolf down some cookies, and she instantly yakked... best moment of my young adult life
i had the same question but pertaining to farting in the bath tub.. when a fart has to travel through water, it comes out twice as smelly... what gives yo!?!
