Both. All living things that are not plants are animals. That includes reptiles, mammals, birds, fish, insects, spiders, etc. A turtle is a type of reptile, which is a type of animal.

All reptiles are animals, so a turtle is both an animal AND a reptile. The two terms are not mutually exclusive.

I think you're confusing the terms animal and mammal. A mammal is an animal that produces milk to feed its young. A reptile is an animal that is "cold-blooded" and is covered with scales.
