I showed up for work today and was taken back to the stockroom so the lost prevention manager could have a sit-down with me. He talked in the beginning about all the different thefts and stuff that happen at work, and began asking about the things I've stolen. I knew they had proof it was me, although they never flat out accused me or threatened me. So, I was completely honest in everything. I stole at least $200 worth since I've worked there and told them that.

In my description to the L.P. Supervisor, I mentioned (and this is entirely true) about how I have a major problem with stealing, and most of the time I can't even remember doing it until I get home and find the stuff I've taken. I also mentioned how I can't afford therapy sessions and don't know any other way to get help, but I desperately want and need it. Which is still true.

Anyway, I've been suspended from work now and said I'd get a call. What's going to happen to me?

I should also mention I work at Rite Aid (well, I'm suspended from...) and am 18 years old.

The least that could happen to you is being fired and pay back the $200.
The worst that can happen to you is be arrested for grand theft. [most states anything over $100 is a felony] and you could be sentenced to probation or time in prison.

Well, I don't know for sure for your area. My daughter had this happen. She did almost the exact same thing. She went through what we call teen court, where you are tried by a panel of your peers, who just get to set number of community service hours. She already pleaded guilty. You will probably just face a judge, who will ask you about what you did. Be completely truthful! She wound up doing several hours of community service. It ranged from planting tree, to cleaning up parks, etc. Of course you have to pay fees, etc., and we got a bill from corporate store wanting restitution for for the 5 buck bracelet. But had to end up paying a couple of hundred here. My guess is that you will have to do community service hours. Not sure what the standard is where you are. Could be anywhere from 30-50 or so. If you complete those you will be OK. If not, you will be hauled back into court to pay hefty fines, more hours, etc. My tips to you: 1. Do not be a smart alek 2. Be very polite, especially when addressing the judge 3. Be very remorseful for what you did. 4. Try and get your community service done as quickly as possible.

You will likely be fired, and the store will forward the information to the local prosecuting attorney. You will be charged, likely with a felony, embezzlement, and have to go to court.

You may be placed on probation, and will likely have to make restitution. They will want you to pay for all the items you stole. In addition, if no other employees confess to any theft you could find yourself paying for everything stolen since you were hired. You would have to prove you didn't take the things the other people stole.

If you get into treatment NOW you might have a chance to convince a prosecutor that you have already reformed, and get a more lenient sentence.

Depends on your bosses.

You'll certainly be fired - and since it's for theft, you won't be entitled to unemployment.

The store will 'almost' certainly require you to pay back the value of everything you stole.

The store 'may' choose to report the thefts to the police. If they do so, you can be charged. You might be charged with a count of theft for each of the occasions that you stole something, which can aggravate the petty theft charges and possibly even rise to a felony. Your confession to the loss control guy at work CAN be used against you in court, so you have little or no hope of winning if you're charged.

If you have this "stealing problem" and can't remember doing it until you got home, WHY didn't you return the items immediately?? I'm pretty skeptical about this "problem". But OK, I'll give you the benefit of doubt for now. There's free, or low-cost help provided at your county's mental health centers. Get some.
You'll, no doubt, be fired and they may press charges.

This is an answer every loss prevention person hears probably twice daily.

You will probably not get leniency. You might have if you had come to your store manager the very first time you stole and asked for help. They will be rightfully skeptical.

What ever you get, you deserve.

You are going to get fired i.e. "Let go."

If you have a problem, try and get a job out of retail or expensive equipment.

You'll get fired. You'll have to return all you've stolen, or pay for it.
