I almost hate to post this because i LOVE the name i have picked out for my baby (if she's a girl) but some people are telling me it's not a good choice because it is unique and "weird".
the name i have chosen is Annalucia Deluna
Annalucia means "gracious light" and that is why i chose it, because she's not even here yet and she already lights up my life! Deluna, means "of the moon" so "gracious light of the moon" is the full name meaning (cut me some slack i'm a hippie and a cancer!)
Anyways, some people say she'll be made fun of b/c of her middle name and that her first name (pronounce "a-na-loo-sha") is too weird/unique and complicated. But, i think it's beautiful, and who ever knows someone's middle name?

deluna is french for "of the moon", not just some made up thing, and her father is of french and italian descent, and i wanted the names to show that, and i do know i am mispronouncing it per the italian prononciation, but it's a compromise because he wanted the name anelise but i didn't like the meaning, so i chose something with a similar sound and a meaning i loved as a compromise. and thanks for noticing the "anal" thing...i purposely spelled it with 2 n's b/c i didn't want "anal" in her name lol glad i'm not the only one to notice
but i have never seen lost, and knowing there's a character with that name makes me kinda like it less....

I'm usually not a fan of "different" names...but I really think Annalucia Deluna is a beautiful name. It sounds Italian, so you've done a good job with that...I thought the first name was pronounced "Anna-loo-see-ah"...which sounds very pretty to me, but it's also pretty the way you've got it pronounced. I don't think she'll be teased about it...Her friends will probably shorten the name to either Lucy or Anna, and those are both are cute. You're right about the middle name...it's not like she's going to be introducing people with her middle name all the time! And the meaning behind it is sweet, so I wouldn't worry about things at all. I think you and your boyfriend/husband have done a great job choosing a beautiful name, and if you guys end up with a girl, I think it'll be a name she'll be proud to have. Congrats!

EDIT: Just to comment on the person who said they don't know why people consider the meaning when picking out a name for their child...There are TONS of names that have negative meanings, even if the name is beautiful, and as a mother, I would never stick my child with a name that meant "crooked nose" (Cameron) or something like that.

I don't necessarily find it all that "weird" or even unique a choice -- Ana/Anna and Lucia (both together and as separate names) being quite common in Hispanic or Italian communities, after all -- but the form and pronunciation itself seems a bit off. It seems from your "a-na-loo-sha" guide that you intend to use the Italian pronunciation of Anna but the English pronunciation of Lucia (rather than Italian loo-CHEE-a).

Despite the literal "of the moon" meaning of slapping de onto Luna, I have to honestly admit that "Deluna" simply does not appeal. It seems all too reminiscent of Delusional, to be frank, and I find Luna itself 100% more attractive. Short of that, perhaps another moon-related name would appeal? Lucine, Selene, Chandra, Aylin, Callisto (not OUR moon, but you follow), etc. After all, you don't have to make the name a literal play on words to get the meaning you desire. The "de" is really unnecessary.

I thought I'd mentioned the Lost character above, but apparently not. ;) In any case, you should probably be aware of the familiar pop-TV series and Ana-Lucia from it (I believe they used the AH-na loo-SEE-a pronunciation for the Hispanic character). Perhaps not a concern, in any case, but since you seem to think it an unusual choice, it might affect your feelings either way (people familiar with the hit show WILL have heard of it -- though not pronounced as you intend -- which could be a positive or negative for you). Just a heads up!

I think it's pretty! I would have pronounced the first name A-na-loo-see-uh if you hadn't put that in there, but it's nice! And Deluna is a little complicated, but pretty! You could always shorten it to Luna or go with Delaney, which is similar, but i think it's really cool that the name has meaning to it. So what if someone laughs when she tells them her middle name? That's what happens to most kids. It's not like you randomly chose it, like I said it has meaning and that's something she'll be proud of. =) Good luck! ♥

I really love the name annalucia, different but pretty. I'm not crazy about the deluna part. Its definitely not french, cause if it were it would be De la Lune. So...it looks more italian. Again, Maybe Annalucia Soleil (means sun in french).

I think it flows nicer.

I love Annalucia, it's beautiful. I wouldn't worry about her being made fun of. When she gets old enough, she'll decided to be called just Anna anyways. You're right about the middle name though, most kids do have weird middle names, so its never that big of a deal. Deluna is a good enough middle name, though I would shorten it to just Luna, but either way, I don't think she'll get teased or anything. I think she'll quite like this name.

I really like it. Also, Deluna isn't so weird a middle name. It's actually fairley common for there to be weird middle names.
I've known people with middle names like creed, Lazarius, Androwe (old spelling of andrew) Geoff, Crispin, DeDe, Machiavelli (he didn't tell me till we'd been friends like 10 years, tho) and everything else. Also, most middle names just appear on the register as one initial. So it would appear as
Annalucia D. Whatever, which isn't so bad, and it's rather pretty.

Annalucia its a nice name..its growing on me; I'll be honest nice meaning but I really wouldnt advise Deluna it doesnt flow with Annalucia..How about Annalucia Luara or Luana they are hispanic for "of the moon".

The first name I think is fab - and the second one, although it doesn't blow my frock up, is still a pleasant enough name.

Having said that, I think the idea that her school mates will not find out "loonies" middle name is possibly a shade on the optimistic side - these days, kids seem to know WAY more about each other than in my day.

I understand your reluctance to ask the question - folks have a knack of asking questions for re-assurance - and then just listening to the person who tells them what they want to hear. Sounds as though you might actually want a real answer instead.

I am sure she will survive the odd taunt - and indeed might well enjoy the nickname it will earn her - but don't bank on her peers not finding out her middle name - even her school teachers might make the odd comment - and not out of spite - it WILL be a very unusual name.

Mark

*edit* Re: another answerers suggestion - please DON'T shorten it to "Luna", that is just BEGGING for the kids to add "tic" on the end.

Annalucia is pretty]
As for as it being wierd, I do not think so
I think it's different, and easy to say

I think Wierd names are names you can not say or spelling with how it is said

I think Annalucia is 100% better then Nevaeh, it's a top 50 name

If you love the name, then it's prefect

Do not tell anyone the name until you have her
Then, people will keep their commons to themselfs

I really like it.
I don't usually like the names people come up with on here, but this one is a winner. I especially like the meaning. Keep reading the other questions and you'll see your choice is far from weird, but unique in a good way.
PS-I knew how to pronounce it.
