You can find 3/4 and 1/2 scale guitars easily, most 7 YO hands are probably too small for 3/4, best bet is to go to a store with good selection and let the kid try them. Musician's Friend for example has plenty of 3/4 scale:

The best thing you can do is just call your nearest music store and ask for a "shorter scale" guitar. Or maybe even a "miniature" scale. A standard size will be WAY too big. Also, Wal-Mart and places like that have kid-starter guitars, too. Squier makes a mini-Stratocaster that is actually a really good guitar and pretty cheap. Hold this helps.

i'd initiate out with an acoustic guitar, no longer an electric powered. If he likes the guitar, and practices and learns to play nicely, then he can improve to an electric powered. yet why spend 3-4 cases as plenty for one (as an acoustic) if he's in basic terms commencing up?
