I was a short order cook in College and single a lot of my life. When I was married, I cooked, mostly breakfast and BBQ but after the divorce, I was a single parent and cooked a lot. I had the kids every other week for 12 years, so I had to keep all of us fed.
I'm no gourmet cook but I can out a meal together. Baked chicken covered with cream soup , spaghetti made by Prego, crock pot meals, good old Grillin'.
I also like to bake, especially during the Holidaze. Cookies and fruity breads are pretty easy. I also make some good no-bake rum balls.
Anyone want to come over for dinner?

NO! I went out on my own at 19, bought a house and all that goes with it. I had a good job so I ate out alot. When I was 25 I got married and my wife cooked everything, she didn't work outside the home and was raised that that's the way it is.
23 years later when she left me I had to learn. I can keep you alive, but that's about it. The George Foreman grill didn't even help. I tried once with my new wife about a month after we were married. I decided I'd cook some Cajun porkchops with my Foreman grill.
I am banned from the kitchen for life! I'm allowed to make coffee and cereal for the grandkids when they stay over, that's it! My loss I know.

I can cook anything. Granted, my wife is the better cook, I did teach her a few dishes that she turned around and made 10 times better than when I taught her. I love it.
I will jump in and help my wife to cook only when she ask. Normally she prefer I stay out of the kitchen. So I always ask. In fact, she prefers for all to stay out of her kitchen.
As far as I know I have been cooking forever. I can't pinpoint a time when I began, but I'll say sometime when I was in the military.

Almost 61 here.
I cook dinner Monday through Friday (unless it's a holiday) since I get home around 3:30 and my wife doesn't get home until 4:30 or after. Sometimes I experiment (like tonight with the baked Tilapia fillets, scalloped potatoes w/2 cheeses, sliced tomatoes and cukes). She does the cooking (and only she does the baking) on weekends.

My Father is 89 years old and some of the best meals I ever had were done by dad. He can make roast beef, fried chicken, you ask ...he'll make something. There were many times when my mom and dad would be side by side in the kitchen cooking. My husband is 49 and he cooks almost every night, he gets home before I do and supper will be waiting when I walk through the door.

I'm only 47, so sue me, but I cook all the time. I learned by working in an Italian restaurant when I was between 18 and 24. I cook all kinds of things. Nothing exotic, but I can whip out breakfast for 8 people in 30 minutes, consisting of various eggs (fried, omelets, or scrambled, your choice), bacon or sausage, diced pan fried potatoes, and pancakes, I can bust out a baked red snapper for dinner with steamed brocolli, fresh mashed potatos, (not the flakes), sauteed mushrooms, rice with chicken in tomato sauce, rice with sauteed jumbo shrimp, I can crank out lasagne, homemade meatballs, spaghetti and sausage, anything you like. You want a BLT? I'll hook you up. Grilled cheese with tomato soup? You got it. Quesadillas? No problem. Steak? Show me the grill. I'm not afraid to try new stuff, either. And I can guarantee you there ain't no leftovers, either.

My husband (over 50) does not cook at all and seriously doesn't know how. He makes his own breakfast ... cereal and milk ... My son is a chef (under 50) and does all the cooking for his wife, as well as at work.

My father couldnt make a jam sandwich for himself - he also couldnt seem to get into bed on his own without my mother folding it down for him -- my mother belonged to that generation where women were supposed to cater to and be slaves for men.
My "friend" can cook, and cook well. Thank God seeing as I am not always up to cooking. We arent excactly together, but working towards giving that another go - but I count on him to do some of the cooking, most of the laundry, to be the one who vacuums and washes the floors -
I hope that generation of helpless men has pretty well died out, I always thought what an insult to men for women to think they arent capable of doing something as simple as cooking a meal, washing their clothes or even dressing themselves, never mind caring for their own children .
Its time men let it be known they are just as smart and just as capable as women are -- WHY they accepted being treated as if they were mindless, hopeless and stupid for so long I will never understand --

OF course I can cook, and damned well also..I just hate to do it, so I rarely do! I hate the clean up more than the cooking...so much time spent for such a short time's recreation. I can cook fancy as hell or simple as a short order cook..and I can time out a 7 course meal to the minute. But I no longer do it, for I just do not get the enjoyment out of it for the time it takes. AND considering the price of groceries, you can eat out just as cheaply. Phil

My ex-husband was a great cook and did most of the cooking when I was in school or working. Both of my sons are even better than he was and they like to experiment a lot.
