Work like you don't need the money, Love like you have never been hurt, dance like no one is watching, and swim naked as often as you can. But remember, life is not a rehearsal.

The thing is that you can't; if you try to protect yourself from pain, you also barricade yourself from love. If you follow your friend's advice and just are in relationships for fun, you end up with a hollow romance, and you'll get bored eventually. If you do get hurt, you need to let yourself grieve and then pick yourself back up. Then when you get back out there, you'll maybe be a little more careful about letting yourself fall for someone, but if you're only in it for fun you really won't get anything out of it except for being able to say you have a boyfriend.

I don't expect much from other people. It certainly eliminates most issues of disappointment.

I would enter into a more trusting relationship VERY slowly and carefully.

Breg's right, though. I just get over it. I mean, it might suck a whole lot, but the world is still rotating and there's plenty of other great things out there to enjoy. Live, love, laugh, learn, live some more, and leave it when it's over.

The best way is not play the game to begin with. I do that, and lots of others don't extend themselves to others. that is the best way to hurt yourself too Shy people do this all the time. It is hard to date someone you find attractive and not get attached to them as you learn more about them. I would say there is no good way to protect yourself from being hurt other than don't date, and kick yourself for not dating.

do whatever you want try not to listen to you friends as much. sometimes friends are the flaws when it comes to our personal love lives. they could either lead you the right way or plainly lead you to all the wrong directions. a good way to prevent you from getting hurt is getting hurt. therefore you learn from mistakes and become a better person each time. even though it might seem like a contradicting statement but its true. I've been hurt many times but now I see them as learning obstacles that made me the person i am today. give every guy a chance that comes your way but in moderation of course because you're not going to pay attention to some drunk dude who hits on you. just have fun do whatever makes you happy

Physically or emotionally? Physically I am on restrictions, emotionally I have lowered my expectations. I live in total seclusion and I spend most of my days completely alone. Luck for me, I have plenty of things to do in my sheltered existence. If you don't see anyone you wont have to worry about ever getting in a relationship. It is like the north pole up here during the Winter unless you are a drunk.

Wear a crash helmet, heat resistant gloves and other protective clothing. But you might still get hurt - so have some ibuprofen to hand, just in case.

You can never completely protect yourself; the best thing to do is to have a bit of common sense and not put yourself in the situation where it can happen.
