there supposed to be good for 100,000 miles.

You didn't mention what kind of car you are driving. Platinum spark plugs, depending on the manufacturer, should last for 100,000 miles, but it depends in ehat car they're in..Believe it or not, some manufacturers of Platinum plugs are better thatn others.The only thing that tends to cuase problems is if the charging system has failed somewhere and been repaired (causing a voltage drop). This will prematurely wear a platinum and cause it to need replacing sooner.

lol, every 40k would be a BIG waste of money and time. change them at around 60-80k.

90-100K miles is what my manual recommends.

if you care about you car and want to get the best performance out of it you should change them every 40,000 miles.
