About half the states in the US still use corporal punishment on students. Isn't it against the law though for them to paddle high school girls and guys that are seniors and 18 or older?

I don't know but when I grew up that fear and my upbringing kept me in line. A lot of boys got paddled in high school and they survived and most likely made them a better person. My daughter's school has permission to paddle her if necessary, although I don't see that happening. I have taught her responsibility and she knows there will be consequences for her actions. Some of todays kids have no fear and feel they are "entitled" to everything.
What is scary is they will be taking care of us when we are older.

Are you kidding me?!?
Corporal punishment is one of those things that should have never been made illegal both in schools and in our homes.

I don't think many of our children would have the problems they do these days if we didn't have the threat of child services or jail time hanging over our heads if we touched our kids.

I remember when I was 14 and I cussed at one of my Friends. A passing elderly man smacked me upside my head and told me language like that is not for children. It made me mad at him and embarrassed, but also respectful of my elders and fearful of doing that again. That was 20 years ago and while I do have a potty mouth, I know to control it around people I am not familiar with.

This site lists the specific laws for each state that allows corporal punishment: http://www.stophitting.com/laws/legalInformation.php

I didn't read each state's law thoroughly, but generally the law authorizes corporal punishment to be imposed on "pupils" or "students" -- I didn't find any limitations based on grade or age.

it is against the law in a public school. the united states supreme court ruled in 1971 that corporal punishment is unlawful due to the fact that they are a public facility and they for must abide by the laws of the governed building policy- that no un due assaults or warrants shall occur in or on a public place. in other words you can have that school district sued and assault charges pressed against the perpetrator.

Wow! If you're brave enough to paddle an 18 year old, kudos. A grown person wanting to paddle a child probably likes torturing cats.

Brutal!

If a teacher or anyone had ever laid a hand on one of my kids, I'd of had them arrested and I'd sue them for everything they owned....

Nobody has the right to lay hands on a minor child except the parents.

Interesting that those states who still permit such brutality are those who have not yet joined the 21st century in many things....

I'm not opposed to it. Maybe if their parents were a little more active in their kids lives. come to think of it, I know more than just a few parents who could benefit from a good, old fashioned spanking themselves! No, it's not illegal.
