I hear the phrase "We fight them over there, so we don't have to fight them here"........"If we leave, the terrorists will follow us home."

The 'terrorists' I see on TV and in the news would appear to be guys in sweat pants and sandals who really don't like us. I understand they have the capability to attack the country (9/11), but to say we would have to 'fight' them over here, isn't that a little misleading? It would seem we're fighting what we've characterized, in essence, as a 'terrorist army'....while the terrorists (individuals who adhere to a religious fundamentalist ideology) are hell bent on crippling our financial institutions, cuz money is power. So wouldn't spending such large sums of money in Iraq just make the US go bankrupt faster?

Obviously there will always be those who dislike America, but wouldn't securing the borders stop something like 9/11 from happening again better than ridiculously expensive wars.?

That statement is problematic for me. Too many Americans have bought in to this conflict based on the red, white, and blue colored packaging it came in. It is far more than simply misleading; it simply isn't true. An assembled fighting force in Iraq, has absolutely no bearing on worldwide terror operations. It is also extremely important to remember that 9/11 was an extraordinary exception to the usual car bombs and pipe bomb threats more commonly employed by terrorist organizations. The goal of terrorists is to have demands met by creating widespread fear not by killing thousands of people. Fear can be created by killing only a few people such as the anthrax scare did or the Virginia sniper. That statement in itself, made by our own President has done far more to create fear than anything Bin Laden ever did.

The US is constantly on the guard for terrorist activity and build ups here and also around the world. We should be because of what we have experienced from their activities.

We are not the only country in the World that has felt the blow of terrorism. Reports come from all over the world of a group of people heavily armed with a leader that is supported by individual and countries.

If this well organizes (army) of terrorist would have attacked China or Russia and destroyed one of their major sources for world trade, killed thousands of people and attempted to demolish their Military control center that group of people (terrorist) and the individual and countries that supported them would no longer be on this planet and the Map of the World would be absent of a couple countries in the Middle East.

Our intelegence agancies have been overwhelmingly successful at stopping the terrorists since 9/11.
There have been many attempts like:
1)The airline shoe bomber
2) the plot, stopped at the Canadian boarder, to blow up LAX
3) the plot to blow up 10 US bound airliners over the Atlantic Ocean
4)The plot to blow up New Yorks tunnels
These are but a very few of the many plots that have been stopped and there many more not here!

It os also true that Iraq has been a "terrorist magnet" that I speculated on years ago! Iraq was more accessable than the US. and our soldiers have responed by exterminating thousands of foreign Al Queida in Iraq!

Americans did fight terrorists on 9/11. One plane crashed in Pennsylvania because passengers would not let the muslim crazies carry out their mission.
Freedom is priceless. It is always worth fighting for, no matter the cost.
The free countries of the world paid a terrible price to be free of the tyranny of Hitler's Germany and Imperial Japan.

Terrorists are all over the world and can attack us anywhere they want. Thinking that terrorists only exist in Iraq is complete ignorance. Locking down our southern border would be a much better use of our military forces.

We are fighting them here. There have been a number of attacks that have been prevented due to our intelligence communities' vigilance and the alertness of our public. However, as long as there is no fundamentalist-supporting regime to coddle the Islamofascist leadership as a base of operations, the threat risk is lessened, not zero, but lessened.

Good point, although maybe a cost-benefit analysis must be done to determine how much it will cost to rebuild after they blow us up again vs. the cost of war. Of course you have to factor in consumer confidence that will go town the toilet which will continue to send our ecomony in a downward spiral. Moreover, can you really put a price on emotional devestation it will cause as people will be too scared to leave their houses.
I say-keep'em over there.
