They had no insurance because they are about to move.. so thankfully they were renting the house and the owner had insurance on it.. and they have a new place to live soon, but they've lost everything. Does anyone have experience with getting things for people after a house fire? I know to check thrift stores, but is there anything else? This is my sister and I really want to do all I can to help her...ESPECIALLY with Christmas coming up. She is in high spirits though.

Perhaps you could arrange for some type of concert or charity event to be held in their honour. While there you could raffle off items (a lot of businesses would gladly give you some form of a gift) and raise some funds for them this way. Or you could contact your local municipality and see if they have any services available to people that find themselves in your sisters spot. At this time of year you'll find some grinches for sure but there are many more people who are willing and able to help, so best of luck.

Ask for donations--from other family members, from friends, co-workers, church or club pals....literally EVERYONE has an odd end-table, lamp, or frying pan they'll part with. And anyone with kids has plenty of good hand-me-downs to share.

Get the word out--you'll be amazed at the response.
