i dont see how being segregated can be anywhere near as bad as enslaved

Slavery. The white man used to use a contraption to hold the mouth of a slave open and s**t in their mouths. The ones that worked in the fields would work in the blazing sun for up to 12 hours without a break. Segregation was probably tough but slavery was a hell of a lot worse.

I'm not black, but, I don't think there's much of a difference.
They have had it bad from the start, and it's still not so good for them, why can't people help people help them self's, we need to let go of yesterday and get on with today, look forward, things WILL get better in the future I can feel it in my bones, there will not be any discrimination or name calling or even the damn segregation crap and this goes for all races,
in fact , we all will be working as a whole insted of against each other, WOW what a change that's going to be. So there !!!

People are quick to say slavery, but this is an interesting question... No matter how bad a situation is, if you have acceptance with no hope or even idea that it could be different, one MIGHT argue that it is easier to deal with, than people fighting for something and getting knocked down, killed, and just hated for no reason because of it. The people that fought and endured during segregation were the ones that paved the way for us. They hardly ever reaped the benefits of their struggle, they're only honored NOW...so I would not be so quick to say slavery, only for this reason.

That is an excellent question. I am not black nor am I quite old enough to have been around during slavery, but I do remember the way things were during the Jim Crow days. One can only imagine. Which would be worse? Being a slave and never having experienced freedom or being free but not equal.

Is it worse if liberty is far away dream or having only enough of it to make you hungry for more. I do not know.

Sufi is right. They were both tough, but in different ways. But as far as security with the essentials, the slave era may have been better. True, slaves worked hard every day, but no harder than the white small farm owners who didn't have the money to buy slaves. Slaves were very expensive, and most plantation owners protected their investments. Most slaves received medical attention (as good as it was then). And food, shelter, and clothing was available, or the means to make it available.

Both were terrible times.
But you have to remember they both were in different times and the way of thinking were different too.
In the old days in Africa after a battle between tribes in those times most of them were black the prisoners became slaves of the winning tribe and were treated very bad because they belong no to another race but to another tribe
So when white people came to Africa and won and took people to slavery that was how thing were done on those days.
Segregation
Different time were people wanted to be respected.
bad times for black yes
But now we are in different time and we have a different enemy that don't care you are black ,white, Spanish, Chinese or green.
You have to adjust to what time brings with the changes and sacrifices

Their were both horrible they both disfranchised blacks and set them back for thousands of years. During slavery they erased a whole generations history and then destroyed the entire family structure during segregation.

slavery. slaves are treated liek animals, segregation treats people like children or lower class citizens but slavery is the worse of two great evils.

I am not black, but I am sure neither situation was pleasant. I would think both would have had its few upsides and many massive downsides. It seems logical to assume that segregation was better, but you can tell unless you lived it. Both were evil.

Slavery was the worst. They were deprived of any freedom. And no rights. Slaves were treated like property.
