She's anemic. You can have irregular periods if you are anemic. You can have irregular periods for no reason, as well. If she is old enough, she could try birth control. Maybe the two of you should visit a doctor together?

Reasons for missed or late periods:

1. Age. Some girls take up to 3 years to become regular after menarche (first period).
2. Exercise. A recently-begun exercise program can affect hormone levels.
3. Weight gain/loss of 10+ pounds. Can affect hormone levels.
4. STDs.
5. Recent miscarriage or abortion.
6. Pregnancy.
7. Medications. Some medications can affect hormone levels. This includes birth control medications.
8. Illness. From a common cold to an ovarian cyst to a thyroid imbalance, some illnesses can affect hormone levels.
9. Stress. Even everyday stress can affect hormone levels.

You don't mention what your girlfriend's low iron level was regarding blood donation. Normal female hematocrit (iron) is 35-45. The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) asks that the hematocrit be 38 or higher to donate blood, so it's possible her iron was too low to donate but not low enough to be anemic.

You don't mention whether your girlfriend has health problems or takes medications, so I'm assuming she's healthy and unmedicated. If she isn't having any other symptoms besides a late period, you probably don't have cause to worry.

Irregular periods are common. Your girlfriend might be anemic. She might have fibroids. Depending on her age, she might be pre-menopausal. She needs to see her gynecologist to determine why her periods are irregular.

One thing she can do is drink a little wheat grass, plus take her vitamins regularly. But she should the doctor.

She could have anemia, she should confer with her doctor and have a blood test. Other reason's she could have an irregular period is: she is very athletic, birth control medication, and there are medical conditions that can cause this such as endometriosis.

Is she on the pill? If not that, then maybe there is someone on the side.
