Asher gave you some awesome tips for really fine-tuning a good MC. I'd say to work with that and then give your character a secret. Make it something they would/could/should kill for if it "got out" or something they would fight for with every last ounce of their body. Then craft an antagonist. Let it be almost they're complete opposite, make it someone who sees exactly what they do, with one little twist. Work with dialogue--this kind of thing, you just have to play by ear and let your personality work into the characters and change them up.
