I don't even understand why you need a hyphen. Who said you need one?
I would just write "The book was ten (or 10) pages long." No hyphen. And a very short book.

1. The book was only 10 pages in length
2. The book contained only 10 pages
3. The book was short; only 10 pages.

No hyphen is needed. The book was 10 pages long.
