Do you think the Hover Dam, National Parks and many other environmental Improvement projects would have happened if the US would have had the present welfare system during that time. What happened to the Conservation Corp? Better know as the C C s

They were a good idea though, giving stepping-stone jobs that taught employable skills to those without a good education, with a criminal record, etc. It's better than just paying people not to work

It brought this country out of a Depression and helped build the infrastructure you are now enjoying. This infrastructure is now rotting--like bridges, buildings,and roads. We could use a like kind or program now for people who want to work and learn skills---also throw in a little military training wouldn't hurt-- May need it in the future.

World War II occurred. It created work for everyone in the US. The make work program was no longer needed.
