Bless your heart, life is too precious to be bored. My answer is: volunteer, volunteer, volunteer. No matter how tiny a town you live in, there are services that can use your help. I always thought I'd get old, retire and then volunteer. I started volunteering at my local Humane Society by raising bottle baby kittens in my home. I've been doing that for 8 years...I'm 59. My mom is over 80 and still volunteers. She does in home respite and works with meals on wheels. She also still bowls once a week. She's the youngest 80 year old I know. Please don't waste the precious time you have left with boredom...volunteer in some area that you have an interest. You'll get back more than you would ever give.

I am not retired but my retirement plan is to go back to school and finish that degree in marine biology that I started years ago. From there, I would like to go back to the university I graduated from and enter into their theatre program. I used to help out the theatre people and had a great time doing it. Kind of wished I could have spent more time with them. My plans involve going and taking those classes in college I wished I could take. The fun ones that were not a part of my actual degree.

That is one part of my planned retirement. Maybe you could do the same. Find something that you could do that did not make sense earlier in life. Maybe it is a job that did not pay so well but would have been a wonderful job. Maybe it is school. Maybe it is volunteering. Maybe being a James Bondesque super villian. There are all sorts of things that you can do if you choose to.

You need to get a life ! Go out and move around. Go to the park, the city or wherever to meet people. Go to church or wherever, join some volunteer groups, do something that moves your butt and your mind. Help out in VA hospitals, or join in the local Red Cross or Salvation Army to help raise funds or help feed the homeless. Do something you like, swim, golf, fish, tennis, shooting, shopping, and hiking. I know there are thousands of things you can do, now that you are retired. Learn to speak another language, play a musical instrument, or exercise with a group. Take adult classes, dancing lessons, yoga lessons or join a gym. Got it ? Now go do it and stop making excuses about being bored. Good Luck.

I never can say I have nothing to do. I have plenty to keep me busy. I just don't know how to set priorities sometime.
