2007-12-07 09:04:05 · update #1

Y'know what - I've just realised something - and this speaks volumes. it says alot obout the maturity of SOME of the individuals that are defending this type of music...why are you leaving big gaps in your answers? Your answers are ill thought out and one of you even referred to my race...PMSL...enough said...illiterate bunch of idiots...come back when you can write properly

2007-12-07 09:16:59 · update #2

I'm not offended by rap/hip hop generally - please read the question properly before answering...I said I'm offended by the sexist lyrics - I'm aware some do not have sexist lyrics, I'm talking specifically about that music that does

2007-12-07 09:26:28 · update #3

Obviously I've heard it otherwise I wouldn't be writing that the messages contained within are sexist. I'm not saying that they don't refer to the hardships of life, just that they are sexist and derrogatory towards women - why does it matter when I listened to it? lol

2007-12-07 09:36:12 · update #4

So when the world is against you, you should make sexist music? LMFAO...I give up

2007-12-07 09:37:08 · update #5

Engage me, grow up...you make very little sense sweetheart

2007-12-09 04:05:49 · update #6

hip hop 101 spit or whatever you call yourself...who died and made this your section? Racist bigot...it's clear you struggle to write English so fill up the page with air, abit like what's in your head...my fears were confirmed - judging by some of the crap answers from the majority of hip hop and rap lovers, I now understand why you listen to this bull...gangster wannabe's...the bulk of you made no sense - go back to school.

I understand not all songs contain derrogatory lyrics and are very good BUT some are disgraceful. They were the ones I am referring to.

yes, i do take offense to it if they are personally calling all girls b.itches or demeaning ALL women in some way. that's why i rarely listen to little wayne or snoop.

but if they're talking about hooking up with strippers or meeting a girl who's a whore, i don't take offense because i'm not one of those girls.

it may seem like all rap artists do that but they really don't. those why consider rap as a talentless art form are incorrect in my opinion. there's a lot of amazing and unique music that has come from hip hop. we can't judge the entire genre based on a handful of artists. their songs might be the only ones you get a chance to hear on the radio which may cause you to think that all of it is sexist music but it's really not.
and plus, i guarantee pop and rock artists have referred to women in an inappropriate way. it just doesn't occur as much as in hip hop but it still happens.

LMAO Evil!!!

Lady, grow up. Not ALL Hip Hop is bad or "misogynistic"as you put it. If more people like yourself, would just take a little time to do your RESEARCH on the Hip Hop culture and Rap music, than you would discover that there ARE lots of meaningful, conscious, positive and uplifting Hip Hop Artists out there. Instead, your goofy self probably listens to the "radio" or may have watched a 50 cent video and therefore chose to generalize a whole genre and judge the fans, based on that alone. You have NO right to do that. This is why you are getting such a backlash from some of the regulars in this section. Because you DO NOT know what you're talking about. Too often people come to this section and really have no clue what they're saying. You've embarrassed yourself enough for today. Please go away.

I am not personally so offended by it because I tend not to let stuff like that get under my skin too much. But I can see how people would be offended. It is annoying, unnecessary and degrades the person doing it as much as it does the person/people being referred to. But I guarantee that if you flip the script and someone starts writing songs that get played on the radio that deragatorily refer to their racial backgrounds, they just might realize where you're coming from.

There is always the whole "if you don't like it, don't listen to it" argument....but that's kinda weak and doesn't address the bigger problem in this whole situation.

You should try listening to more conscious brotha's, like the Roots, Talib Kwali, Common, Mad Lib. There is more to hip hop that gangster crap.

No, because I take absolutely no notice of this so called 'music' whatsoever and basically treat it with the contempt it deserves so richly.

Can't relate to it, don't like it, so why pay it any attention?

If it offends you, try other genres of music instead. For example, with indie music, it's rarely if ever guilty of the crimes noted above.

I don't consider that stuff hip-hop or music. It's just degrading. True hip-hop is about equality.

Listen to:
Lupe FIasco
OutKast
Kanye West
Common
Nas
K-Os
KRS-One
Talib Kweli
if you want true hip-hop. They are creative, and say something meaningful in their lyrics.

I'm simply offended by rap, a music genre populated by people who don't do music.

I find wackness offensive more than anything, people who abuse the culture. People who curse just to curse. I find that offensive. What's funny is that I guarantee Linkinpark4Life has watched Superbad, American Pie, and every other teen movie out there, and won't find their language and themes offensive, but will find a rapper saying the same thing, dispicable. I find that offensive also. Don't be a hypocrite, if you hate rap, than you must hate R rated movies and video games that are rated Mature. Unfortunately most people who find rap offensive, have at least one of the aforementioned in there possession. But I digress, no I don't find b*tch, n*gga, h*e, sl*t, f*ck, sh*t, p*ssy, d*mn, a*s, or t*ttys offensive. Girls say b*tch everyday; White people say n*gga everyday when black people aren't present; Girls say h*e everyday; Girls say sl*t everyday; Guys say and want to f*ck everyday; Girls and Boys take a sh*t everyday; Guys call other guys p*ssies everyday; 90% of the people on here say d*mn everyday; Girls call guys *ss holes everyday; and well we all love t*ttys; It's called the English language/culture ladies and gentlemen, and all these words and themes were around long before rap music. Ask your parents about the sexist, racist, and mysogynistic ancestors in your family. See if you can trace it back to when people were raping black women and murdering them when they ended up pregnant...sorry for the rant, but you get the point. I love hip-hop, don't f*ck with it...

EDIT ***You sound so upset, if it makes you that upset, please for the sake of us all, don't listen to it anymore, then it won't offend you. There's a million other productive things you could be doing with your life, besides being offended by rappers. In the words of 3 Stacks, "I know you like to think your sh*t don't stank, but lean a little bit closer, see, roses really smell like boo, boo, boo....lmfao, hip-hop just isn't for you, let it go, before Jay-Z causes you to have a heartattack sister.***
