the government use the police, nurses and medical staff as soft targets.
They know if there is a patient in the bed, medical teams look after them
trouble on the streets the police will be there.
Neither willingly go on strike.
In fact the police have taken a pay cut, their pay rise although given in April won't be given them until December...backdated. But all the rises in personal taxation, national insurance and all the other little back door taxes now mean they have not had a pay rise at all.
You might feel that their paycut is well deserved, but I wouldn't do a job where I get verbally abused dailly, run the risk of being shot at or knifed daily, then have to run the gauntlet of the pirahna press and government targets.

Maybe they should strategically place a few of those speed cameras to raise extra funds. Oh they tried that!
What about nabbing some funds out of the social services budget as nobody seems to care a toss anymore.
What about getting the right people to do the job in the first place. Getting into one of HM's uniforms is the only way some of these knobs can gain any respect in society. Being in the Police is a vocation - Greedy Gits, if plod doesn't like it retrain to be a nurse or join the forces & then compare pay & performance. Wow I nearly turned that into a rant?

If you ask for a rise it's no surprise that they're giving none away.

Give the coppers a rise. Get the money from the fat in the government. The government employees that have to deal all day with the general population tend to be underpaid for a job that is always difficult. They deserve more.

Why should they get a pay rise, they're just like everyone else, you don't see the average Joe Bloggs going off on one because they didn't get a pay rise, so why should they get one?? I can't think of any reason why they should 'warrant' a substantial pay increase, just what have the police done recently to raise there profile, or make the average person feel secure. Far from I say...

Pay rise ???? what do they do ?
Edit : and may I say, when we have to call them to our ward they are really ohhhhhhhh. We never call them out unless a patient is really kicking off and we need them but we are made to feel awful, unless one of them gets, well hit.
On a mental health ward we put up with a lot of physical and verbal abuse and when some police are on there they can see what we put up with and you can see them backing off ! ***---es. Only time they are any good is if they are bringing someone onto the ward in hand cuffs which we ask to be removed. FEKK am sidetracked ! Sorry xx

lol! They actually earn quite well considering the short training (which they get paid for)
My education cost me about 13k and a trainee solicitor in crime doesn't earn as much as a probationary police officer even though it's taken years of education, go figure

They should be well paid. They put up with a lot and are in constant danger these days. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

So are they gonna go on strike then? We wouldn't notice the difference if they did
