I am never frightened when I see any wild life... I love animals more than anything (even more than most people) so they are so beautiful and peaceful to me... I live on a lake and in the mornings we see like 20 + deer on our way to work.. they are so sweet ! I walk sometimes after work too and the ones where I live you can get REALLY close to ... cause they live amongst us... but I always cross to the opposite side of the road than they are on so I don't bother them.

Well, it depends on the animal. We like going camping up in New Mexico and we have seen different animals. Like doe/deer types, we just sit still and watch them and take pictures (with no flash). But we have also seen bobcats and coyote like animals and distance ourselves as quickly as possible without alarming them. But you're right it is a beautiful moment that not too many people get to experience.

p.s. Luckily we haven't run into bears yet!

I am in awe of living things. To be up close and personal makes me wish I could speak to them and have them understand.

My closest encounter and it was really nothing major, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. My husband had gone fishing down by the river in a slightly secluded spot. I came down later to see how he was doing. I was about 8 months pregnant and it was quite a jaunt to walk to this area. I went to sit down on a log close to the fishing spot, turned and was staring right into the biggest brown eyes I had ever seen. He was a fairly large woodchuck. A reddish brown coat he had and something in his paws. He froze dead in his tracks with his paws halfway up to his mouth and stared back at me. I'm not sure which one of us was more startled. I must have squealed or let out a sound because my husband came charging up the bank to help and off ran the woodchuck.

It felt like we stared at each other for such a length of time, but I know now it was only seconds. I had never seen one before even though I had been in the woods many times during deer hunting season. It was just one of the coolest moments I've had in the wild.

It depends on what sort of animal it is. If it's a deer or an owl or something, I try to be quiet so I don't frighten it away. If it's some sort of meat eating predator, though, I think I'd be a little nervous!

It depends. Sometimes I raise my gun to take a shot, if it is that animal I am after, such as a duck. If it is a deer or eagle, owl, bear, mountain lion, I normally stay quiet and low. Until they get too close. In the event of a mountain lion, I ALWAYS have my sidearm ready just in case. I made the mistake of not having it ready once.

By in large though, part of my love of my pastime is seeing the animals in their natural undisturbed habitat. I am as much an observer (if not more) than a consumer.

I love it when this happens. I am fascinated by squirrels, birds, and other adorable animals in the wild. Once when I was on my lunch break I went to a nearby park and while in my Jeep I had a groundhog come up curiously and check me out. He came right up to my door. I looked out my window at him. I took pictures with my phone and sent them to my boyfriend. He was like how did you get so close to him? He was shocked when I told him that he just wandered up.

I REALLY enjoy the Earth's nature. Seriously. It's better than being in a city and look at how expensive the cars that people own and drive.
