because a currently talented person might have a boob pop out.
heaven forbid that someone see a boob.
I'd put some Killswitch Engage on stage...maybe have them do a song with Lamb Of God. Then we'll give uptight, boob hating people something to really be offended about :)

1. Jerry Jones makes no money from the Super Bowl. The NFL does. How would anyone make any money from the halftime rock show, anyway? 2. The Who may be old, but groups like that are what the people who spend the money like. Many people in their 20s like that kind of music too.. 3. The Who were not bad. The acoustics were. Get some live albums, like Hendrix's last live one and listen to that. It sounds as bad as the Who did. 4. Groups don't get paid to do the Super Bowl. They do it for the exposure. 5. However, Taylor Swift might be the one who could bridge the generation gap.

Because they're NOT trying to get a younger audience... for the Super Bowl and the halftime... advertising sells.. and they want people 24-45+ to pay attention, from the 2nd quarter through (and think that McCartney, Prince, Petty, Aerosmith etc. and anyone big in the 80's or 70's will do just fine).
Even Janet Jackson was OLD, compared with Timberlake.. and you KNOW, if they could have they'd rather have had Michael... instead of Janet. Ironic that the older, wiser showed the skin... (ill advised) as she was the desparate one, for attention for the two.
Now, that I think about it.. didn't Britney Spears walk around and make-faces like she was into it, with Aerosmith during their appearance.. the Super Bowl/ NFL people are trying anything..
But, just as they've used U2 and Bon Jovi.. they know where the bread is buttered, and it's with the 40+, 50+ and 60+ year old rock-stars that pull an audience/ conversation at parties, with the people that will/may buy Insurance, Lexus, etc. etc. and respond to the advertisers.
Sad, but true.

I don't mind Tom Petty... while I'm not exactly old enough to wear a pacemaker, I really don't want to see Kanye West or 50-cent. Not that I don't enjoy "gold digger" - but that's about the only song by either of those two I could stomach... I don't know how well that would go over uncensored at the halftime show.

Because after the whole Janet Jackson dibaucle they are playing it safe .
If i had to plan a Super Bowl ,
This would've been a good idea for Super Bowl 40
go back and see what Band was popular in the 60' s ,70's, 80's , 90's and today well when Super Bowl 40
and do something on stage mixing them all together , going through the History of the Super Bowl and how it and the music has evolved over the years

I'd agree with some of the other responders about the Superbowl being geared towards a group that probably doesn't listen a lot to today's music. But how about this?
The winner of American Idol and the current music show Next Great American Band get to perform at Half Time. They obviously had a lot of viewers to get them their titles. Two of the 4 groups left on the latter, Sixwire and Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, would really do well at half-time. Not sure about the Clark Brothers or Legion of Doom but they've both sounded pretty good on the show.

Janet Jackson's boob made sure that we will be in the stone ages for a long time with superbowl halftime. Anybody from present day would create a better halftime show than Tom Petty.
Rappers would bring a different audience to the tv during halftime. For someone to state that those 2 performing would fill the stadium up with people shooting is one of the most ignorant things i have read in a long time (KC big Ones).
I for 1 hate 50cent, but the reality of any successful rapper is that in order for them to sell as many records as they do, and to be on MTV and VH1 they have to have a large white audience that isn't from the inner city. Which means yes the suburban caucasian youth that is usually not associated with thug mentality is the majority consumer of rap and hip hop albums. SUPRISE!!

Because Janet showed her tittie to everyone and now people think that if they put another black person on stage they'll do the same thing. Its dumb, but thats the way the world works. I think the halftime show should be something classic. They should take it back to the old school and make the temptations perform the halftime show. That'd be dope.

Thank Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake for that...I'd rather see rock n rollers like Tom Petty and the Rolling Stones than some bubble gum pop/hip hop crap anyway...

I haven't seen a decent half time show in years... I'd like to see Pink ! Fergie, Green Day, something along that line..
They're good entertainers and I feel they'd put on a good show.
