I went to school in Denmark when I was in college. I loved living there and have been back to visit a dozen times! I lived with a family, and they really adopted me as their own kid. Here's what has captivated me about the country and the people:
Overall, it's a very welcoming place. There is a cultural value about tolerance and acceptance (yes, I know -- there are jerks there, too, but few), and a "live and let live" attitude.
If I was lost, needed help finding the right bus, had a question about something, people were so quick (and kind) to help. Danes are very pragmatic. They seem to look for simple and direct solutions to problems, and the country's laws reflect that. They are rightfully very proud of their land and their heritage.
The country is beautiful. From the canals and little streets/alleys in Copenhagen to the farm lands and coast lines, there is little litter and trash and people take very good care of their little country.
Most people speak some English -- many are stunningly fluent, so it's easy for Americans to travel there. The literacy rate nears 100%, and movies are all shown in the language they were made in because everyone can read sub-titles!
If you want to learn more about Denmark, spend some time on the web: I like this site: http://www.visitdenmark.com/siteforside.htm
If you're still in school, there are several great study abroad programs (which is how I got there in the first place) that will support your stay. Try: http://www.dis.dk/

You dream about Denmark? Then there is someone I must introduce to you at once:

You can see two lovely ladies on that photo. It must have been made in the early sixties. I don't know the name of the lady above (it's a pity, though), but the lady below is called Caroline. Imagine her as a symphony in red and white... When I saw her on TV at the age of four, it was love at the first sight. She advertised Danish foods, accompanied by a sung slogan in the style of that time.
She retired when I was ten or so. But she made a good job. And she was creating some special relations between me, and her, and her country, which are still effective.
Have a nice day!

Im currently living in Denmark and I absolutly hate it, the country itself is beautiful. The people on the otherhand are the most racist people you'll ever meet in your life. If your not danish you'll never fit it. The weather also sucks here, its either raining or cold. I dont think its ever gotten hot here in the summer or even warm.
