What accent does the character David Lister have in the Red Dwarf series? It doesn't sound quite British to me - more Irish than anything. Any ideas?

It's a Liverpool/Scouse accent. Liverpool has close links with Ireland being a portal city close to the Irish Sea which may explain its similarities with an Irish accent.

It's a British accent, just one from the area of Liverpool. British accents are like US accents, from different parts of the country, there are different inflections in how they speak.
