Why is it acceptable for famous African Americans to be publicly racist and makes racist remarks?

I have heard a lot of thing that Barry Bonds has said, and more or less his motivation to beat Babe Ruth's record was because Ruth was white and he is black. He also made remarks that his motivation for the single season record was because of his racial hatred for Mark McGuire. That no "cracker" should hold the record.

Why has no one demanded he make apologies?

Why can black rappers use the "N" word 7 to 10 times in a song, but Don Imus makes a off handed remark and he loses his job?

I have no problem being active in trying to stop racism and bigotry, but why do SOME African Americans think its ok for their own people to do it?

Rebecca,
I didn't ask for permission to use it.
I DON'T USE IT.

I don't think anyone should use it, its either racists or it isn't.
Context doesn't matter, especially when people are getting fired over this sort of thing.

Why did I use"stupid" rappers as an example? because they are TV and movies NON STOP. Like it or not, they are the representatives of YOUR culture. If they are stupid, fix them.

Okay, don't say I didn't warn you...

First of all if anyone was to tell him that what he said was wrong not only would he say that we are infringing on his american right of free speech but we'd be the ones that were racist, etc etc.

Second, very few black people should call themselves African-American because they are not actually decended from Africa...to be politically correct they should be called Black-Americans.

Third, black people like to say we as whites owe them something for they way their ancestors were treated...Native Americans were the first slaves and you don't see them calling the race card every chance they get and our generation is not responsible for anything that happened way way back then and neither should they be bitter because they were not involved in it either.

Fourth, here is a scenario for you...what if the slaves had all been freed and sent back to Africa? Lets face it, Africans were the ones selling their own race to Americans for a profit...what would have happened if they had all gone back there? Would they had had better lives? Would they have been sold again? These questions we'll never have answers to.

Fifth, Just to let everyone know. I am not racist and never have been. My grandmother was even married to a black man and some of my best friends have been black and still are. As for the "N" word. I don't believe that word has anything to do with the color of someones skin. It is all in the context that it is used. It can be used as an endearment which is the way most black people use it around here.

Barry Bonds is not anyone that I care about. The way I see it is that no white person got on TV and got really mad about it. You can start that trend if you want. I personally am tired of arguing about Imus and Barry and who ever else. Imus is not somebody that can make me cry.

As far as the N-word goes - I don't say it - but I understand it has a total different meaning coming from a Black person. It just does. If you call me a N. I don't feel that as a term of endearment from you. Even my boyfriend who is White could never find a way to say that to me affectionately. I have Black friends who could do that - and it would make me laugh. Sorry. Why do some White folks want permission to say it so badly? We know that the people that feel it already say it in there homes - so why do you need Black society to tell you it's ok to say it?

Why do they want to use idiot dumb rappers as the example for how they should act towards Blacks. That is like me deciding how to treat White people because of what Guns and Roses said. So dumb.

Its Never Acceptable To Be Racist, Regardless Of Your Color. Its Not A About Some Races Saying This And Some Races Saying That, Its Bigotry, And Weather You Are AFrican American,Mexian,Asian Or White It's Still Unacceptable.

Both groups have too much resentment towards each other and even though they have been living in the US together for so long, the way they have been living with each other is the primary reason for all of this stupidity. I personally put my faith in the all the 'other' races to help rebuild this country socially. A lot of whites are xenophobic and so are a lot of blacks in this country.

Let's watch all the immigrant Latinos and Asian families show the world how to go from rags to riches (in most cases without even knowing the national language) in the US to show blacks that it can be done and to whites that they aren't as important as they think they are and then everyone will be happy.

I know. I am just as against racism as everyone else and I don't think others should be racist to whites just as whites should not be racist to them. Why is it that there can be African American only clubs at school but the second a group trys to make one of there own for whites they are called racists?

Sorry to tell you AND I agree with you, but even the Village Idiots have free speech. We as individuals are responsible for the words that we spew out. Unfortunately, for you to go venture into this confused retort"ism" would mean that you'd have to talk to just about everyone on the planet AND convince everyone that it's wrong. Jesus tried, but only a few really listened. If it'll make you feel better, I'm on your side....

Its a double standard. Alot of people, white and black, feel like whites deserve to be treated as African Americans were/are. It all feeds into ignorance. I feel like white people are forever damned and must walk on egg shells, because black people have the power on us to scream racism, when most of the time it isnt the case. I find social injustices everywhere, but white people have nobody to stand up for them (Except for ignorant people such as white supremacist, who give us all a bad name)
I have given in. Debating it will only cause me to look racist. So I keep my mouth shut like every other white person.

It's not. Who told you it was? Not all blacks are Barry Bonds. There are some ignorant blacks the same as ignorant whites. There are racists in the world. Do not judge an entire group for isolated instances.

They (those black-americans) are blind and foolish. racism is not acceptable from anyone black or white. I, like you, wish this double standard will end. It does nothing but breed resentment and hate.
