I was charged w/ Felony Domestic Battery. (got in a fight with my father, he got cut.) Plead guilty to a Misdemenaor charge of Domestic Battery and got 2 years probation. My P.O. had me sign my rights to possess a firearm away. My Question is after probation can I legally own a Handgun or not? I live in Illinois, might move to Texas.

Probably not; you would need to consult with an attorney.

It is illegal for a felon to be in possession of a fire arm and could land you in jail. Once you have been convicted of any felony you loose your right to own a hand gun or any firearm.

I use to live in Illinois and talk about crappy gun laws you found a great state for it. Your situation is a little tricky because your not a convicted felon it depends on the misdemeanor and the state, but I'm willing to be the answer will be no for IL and TX.

to concur with the poster who related the latest splendid court docket ruling, no you won't be able to. Is it enforced in many cases? no, and specific, the federal gov't, who enacted the regulation that convictions for kinfolk violence limit gun possession, won't use the regulation against you except they are investigating you for some thing else. i've got faith they have been attempting to get the guy interior the sumptuous court docket case for some thing like tax fraud or drug working and that they got here upon this loophole to get him besides. its such as how they have been given capone.
