nope, i think its a nice alternative to email and helps friends and family keep in touch if they have to be apart. My girlfriends husband was in kuwait and that is how we all kept in touch....however it would be nice to see some of the chain letters and spam be removed from there.

Ask yourself, what benefit does it bring to school and what detriment does it bring to school?

The benefits are few. There is not much information that is on these pages that would be useful in class. I doubt that any teacher would accept a Myspace site as an information source.

There are some detriments though. It is a distraction, especially in classes where students have access to computers. Also, there is the cyber-bullying issue. Students tend to get mean on these sites. There is also the acceptable contact. There are many pages on Myspace that are not of acceptable nature in a school. The school does not have the resources to allow Myspace but block the unacceptable pages. Their only option is to block all of Myspace (or other social website). Finally, there is the exposure to sexual predators and other unsavory characters that the school would want to avoid.

I have not ever heard an argument that counters the detriments. I have never heard of anyone giving a valid benefit of allowing the social networking sites to be allowed in school. From this, the school's decision to ban the sites is perfectly legitimate.

The banning that I refer to is from a school system's computers. This is something that most schools do today already. Look on Yahoo Answers and almost every day (at least school day) you will see kids asking how to get around the ban.

Ugh I HATE Twitter! it is taking up the worldwide! Even my college district has a Twitter. it is getting uncontrolled. i've got not got any of those 3. i gets a facebook, yet MySpace and Twitter...ugh. I agree, i do no longer see why absolutely everyone might wish a form of, somewhat one the place you're limited to short, one hundred forty character messages. Blogs i'm able to understand, considering the fact that some human beings have actual memories human beings must be attracted to, yet in any different case i'm clueless.

no. myspace and facebook connect so many people together. I found my elementary friend from facebook and I am really thankful for the creation of facebook. Althought some people think that myspace and facebook are sites that could lead kids into knowing strangters ( there were history of sex offenders using myspace to meet young girls to assault), but I do not think that this is enough of a reason to band myspace and facebook. Using a different level of privacy or being more careful about accepting friend requests could help avoiding incidents like them.

No on facebook and yes on myspace. I say yes on myspace because they're sooo many fake people on there that it's rediculous. I deleated my myspace account because it kept getting hacked into. Even if I changed my password, people still got in, and those comments that people put up are not very appropriate. At least facebook has a bit of more security. The only downside of facebook is the fact that you have to add all those applications. But I'd take facebook over myspace anyday.

No, Face book is a place for college students.

Myspace should be for people 17 and up since most little kids abuse it all the time with their stupid provocative pictures. And then no one could be like 25 years old contacting a 13 year old since you have to be 17 years old to join.

I have mixed views on this, first I think it is peoples choice if they want all their info on the internet for some child molester to see but also i thing they should be more strict in seeing the ages of the people who join or possibly make a real age limit

Banned?

No.

I think they have a bad rep because people are being stupid and giving too much info out, and saying they'd like to meet an internet friend. It's not Myspace's fault- it's the child's.

I assume you mean banned and, as someone asked above, banned from what? Banned for good, forever, as in never to be used again? Or banned to certain appropriates times and places, such as at home for recreation time, and banned from work and from school so as not to be distractions? Definitely they are unnecessary at school or work, but as a recreational and social vehicle, used on your own free time, I believe they can be wonderful tools. But like any tool, they require some maturity and restraint. It's easy to spend lots of time on these sites or use them for purposes for which they were not intended, such as abuse of others or as marketing tools or a vehicle to send endless ridiculous chain letters.

But as socialization vehicles to keep in touch with friends, family who are spread far & wide and coworkers they (especially Facebook) are brilliant!
