okay, i understand persons are trying to get everyone to be a "normal" weight... so now fat girls are "real" girls and skinny girls are all what? fake. In the same way some ppl are naturally fat, some people like myself are naturally skinny...theres NOTHING i can do about it for now and i cannot comprehend why persons would say... "oh barbie isnt real" ... or "noone looks like those skinny models"... wtf? i do!

& that dove real women campaign... yes some girls are "normal" (which in my view is of a healthy BMI) but MANY other are fatties, they are overweight and just as unhealthy as an underweight person... furthermore my my BMI is 18 (which is healthy enough) and im tall and i look very skinny and i am still HEALTHY & REAL.

Oh don't even get me started on that dove campaign. The concept was so ridiculous. Obesity is a bigger issue in this country than eating disorders, yet it's not getting nearly as much attention. More people die of heart disease than eating disorders. I even saw one person online that was positive that there is absolutely no such thing as being naturally underweight. ugh. If I hear "real women have curves" one more time I will seriously freak out.

To top it off, there are so many misconceptions about eating disorders. I can't stand listening to young girls say "I want to get anorexic for a while because I want to lose 5 lbs." It's a disease. You don't turn it off and on.

Most people are OVERWEIGHT and I think it's just become a past time to attack thin people. Natural or otherwise. People are always complaining about "runway models" yet the average person has never even watched a recorded runway show (aside from Victoria's Secret).

Notice that nobody complains about Victoria's Secret models because they have uncommonly large breasts in comparison to their thinness.

For some reason women and men can't wrap their head around the concept of a thin flat chested woman, but they can identify with a thin person with disproportionately large boobs?! go figure. As if having perfect measurements is somehow a more attainable goal for the average person than than being thin all over.

And I always hear Marilyn Monroe touted as the poster woman for "real women" and people say oh she was a size 12 or 14 or whatever. Yes a size 12 or 14 in the 50s would be about a size 6 today. People have gotten so big, excuse me, so "real" that they had to alter the sizes.

Hmmmm. Couple of things. First, I have noticed this sort of social "campaign" going on to convince us all that there is nothing wrong with being overweight, particularly with all the recent attention given to the obesity problem in America. There is a difference between being a few pounds over the ideal and being obese, imo. And yes, many people do have a medical condition which causes them to gain weight. But the fact is, our unhealthy Western diet is causing enormous problems (no pun intended) and we should NOT accept the idea that is normal or okay.

Second, if you are eating healthy and you are simply naturally thin, then how in the heck is that a problem? That's a good thing, girl! Now if you are below the healthy mark on BMI charts, then you should see your doctor because you could have a medical condition.

First of all, they have figured what Barbie would look like in real life, it was like 6'2, 16 inch waist and 85 lbs or something extreme like that. So, no that is not real. Skinny girls are no less real than bigger ones. And to call someone a fattie? How do you like it when someone calls you anorexic? They feel the same way when you call them that. Try to have a little compassion. And FYI- BMI is total crap. I am in good shape, but am waaay over BMI because I am a competitive weight lifter and have much more muscle than the average person. (And I am perfectly healthy- you can ask my doctor!) You need to open up your mind and realize that not all women are going to look the same and not all men want a twig like you. Get over yourself.

Um... not that I disagree with your sentiment (there is certainly nothing intrinsically wrong with being thin), in at least one way you are completely wrong: Barbie ISN'T real.

If a Barbie doll were a real person, her measurements would be 39-21-33. She would be six feet tall and weigh a hundred pounds. He body would have so little body fat that she would be unable to menstruate. And while some physicians allow that it might be possible for a person to have these characteristics, they all agree that it would medically be a pretty bad thing (links 1 and 2 below).

Some runway models are naturally the way they are, but many more are not. What people worry about are children setting unrealistic standards for themselves - especially those who want to be skinny but are not blessed with metabolisms such as yours.

But by the same token, it is wrong for people to set the opposite standard. Just as it is unnatural for some people to be thin, it is also unnatural for some people NOT to be thin. What we should all strive for is to be HEALTHY, no matter what size that means!

ok, i don't want to argue. if you're naturally skinny then you can"t help it. although i "norman" BMI is between 19 and 25.. so you might be a little, ehh underweight.. no offence.. it's just that so many things are happening, models dying, young girls becoming pro-ana. They're things that you cannot deny, and it's pretty dangerous. it's unfair to say people are fattie because they have a BMI over 20.. But i mean we also have a big problem with obesity and all.. these matters just aren't taken care of the way they should.. skinny girls are real, that does NOT mean they are perfect ; let's just say some of them just aren't in reality ..

i understand how u feel exactly, i keep on being told i am too skinny and this and that... believe me i eat as much as i possibly can.. i have three sandwiches, 1 litter of milkshake, and two desserts for lunch every day, yet i am still only 42kg.. i am 5'2" and a half and have a BMI of 16.82.. which is nearly "anorexic" but i look healthy and even have love handles lol, i am really fed up with people telling me to gain weight: i eat as much as i want whenever i want, which may some times be too much/ little but i do not wish to force myself to eat less or more just because of the world's perception of beauty.. if i feel confident and comfortable then i shall eat as much or as little as i want...

Of course those that say skinny girls are fake are Jealous... if they were naturally skinny like you, they wouldn't say those things.
They say skinny girls are fake in retaliation to a world that comes down so hard on heavier women (not so much men, WOMEN). The world has been mean to them, they get mean back. Innocent bystanders like yourself get the shrapnel.
You keep being you, you're great the way you are, screw everyone else and their preconcieved notions!

I know exactly how you feel... Everytime someone is thin people say that they have some kind of eatting disorder like annoerxia or bulima and that is not true and makes me feel very bad when people accuse me of having an eatting disorder because I am naturally thin!! Also when people sit there and go oh I am so fat and then go oh and you are so small... and try to make you bigger like them... As long as you are healthy why does it really matter??

I think that you can be healthy with out being barbie skinny under 100 pounds. I don't think women should follow the unnatural standards of pop culture. But yes women should be healthy and have a reasonable diet. some are bulimics and have really bad self image problems. I think that i may be one of those people.

"REAL"? Well real does not mean normal. Real is anything having actual physical existence. So every living being is "real".
Now normal should mean physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. But normal is also relative.
