HRT: hormone replacement therapy contributes to heart disease. Most women now don't use that method, for obvious reasons. I would seek out an alternative doc. (homeopath) & use herbs instead. Menopause can last up to 10 years or longer. The symptoms vary from woman to woman, I would talk with your female relatives (mom, sister or aunt), this will give you a better idea what you might experience.

It's different for every woman. It could be months, or it could be years. If the symptoms are really bad, then you could take hormones for a little while, then reduce them and see if you still have symptoms. If not, then you can stop the hormones. The general rule for hormones in menopause is the smallest amount for the shortest time you can stand.
