What the Giants should do is keep their two young aces and sign Geoff Jenkins for his veteran leadership and clubhouse presence during the rebuilding years. He'll help develop the young hitters like he did in Milwaukee and still put up 20 HRs and 80 RBIs like Rios would. Plus, they can get him cheap.

Rios will be better for the future

Keep Lincecum and stay away from Jenkins. The Giants would get the same in Pedro Feliz as they would Jenkins. The Giants also answered several of questions by not trying to get Tori Hunter. If they were to add Tori Hunter, Lincecum would not even have been brought up. Ever since Dusty Baker left, the Giants are now realizing nobody wants to play for them forcing them to the trade market.

In answer to the actual question and not the comment below it, being a Giants fan you should know what your dealing with in SF based on the McGowan-Sabean mentality. They have slowly but surely destroyed what was a quality World Series contender five years ago. And as far as I can see the prognosis isn't improving.

Trading away Lincecum is borderline idiotic when you consider what you'll have left for a starting rotation. H3LL, I'm not even sure anymore who the starters are because they are removed and replaced so damned often. And Geoff Jenkins reaching McCovey Cove? He's got to reach the ball first.

Stop griping and trade Lincecum to my Jays!

Seriously, though, I think they want Rios because they'd like a good hitter who's going to be around and contributing for a while. Jenkins is 32 and coming off a pretty bad season. Sure, he can still hit for power on occasion, but that .319 OBP is not something you want in the middle of your lineup. Rios was at .354 last season, and his numbers are climbing across the board. I'm sure they'd rather have a good hitter about to hit his prime than a guy who I think is pretty close to washed up.

I'd just be hesitant to deal Lincecum, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it happens!

If your asking in reference to the Rios rumors it's because you can't even compare Jenkins to an "unproven" Rios. Rios is a younger still relatively cheap 5-tool player which any franchise can use as a solid building block for years to come.

agreed. i dont want to see my giants trade away a future cy young candidate for a guy who isnt even a franchise OFer. rios is a good player im sure, but im not about to give up cain or lincecum for him. geoff jenkins would be a nice cheap signing and i would have no problem with that. other rumors i hear are lowry or sanchez for matsui and i have no problem with that either.

Signing a left handed batter for SBC Park not named Barry Bonds isn't a great idea. Plus, Jenkins will hit for a MUCH lower average than someone like Rios as he has trouble hitting breaking balls low.
