Guy- i appreciate your candor, however evidence proves that people are generally not "good", rather quite the opposite.

Hard question. I don't often put myself in a position where I have to trust just any "general" someone. Most people I interact with I have interacted with before, and have built some rapport with, even if it is just seeing them at the bus stop or in the elevator on a regular basis.
I just got this quote from a different question. Someone was asking if it's a cool thing to tattoo on their arm.
"morality is herd instinct of the individual" - Nietzsche
I interpret this to mean that the natural instinct of people is to be moral, or to behave with "right or good conduct". If that's the case shouldn't we be safe to trust our fellow man? I don't think Nietzsche is wrong, but since there are very few trusting people out there, I think it says the world has changed since he died over a hundred years ago, and it hasn't changed for good.
Generally, our fellow people should be given the benefit of the doubt to be trustworthy. Generally, it is mostly the bad things that happen that get highlighted and talked about so it's hard to remember that most people are actually good (and generally trustworthy).

trust no one - trust is earned
unfortunately I find myself suspicious of most people, but I'm trying to overcome that.
