I've never seen a question on GWS get so many answers. Is Oprah some kind of God?

Why do women worship this woman? I find her annoying and repulsive.

There is no man on this planet the you will ever see MEN so crazied about. I think men are independent thinkers more so than women.

Even Michael Jackson in his peak of fame had more female fans than male.

Why do women like to worship celebs so much?

I watch Oprah an average of 2 times a week and have been for as long as she's been on TV. I've never been a stay-at-home mom but have always had access to a TV during the day because I've owned my own businesses.

I see her as a bright, articulate self-made woman who has a great spirit and is tuned into world consciousness. I admire her sense of morality while at the same time she does not get into condemnation for others who don't think as she does. She's an idealist. She could go or do anything in the world with all her money, but she gives back to society in meaningful ways that makes her a good role model. And she inspires others to do the same with things like her Angel Network, etc.

She's probably the most 'real' and down to earth persons on TV that you'll find. There is nothing phony or artificial about her. Fans who know her well are even happy for her, that she has luxuries to enjoy but that doesn't mean we all want them for ourselves. (You misunderstand most of her fans if you think so.) She made every damn dime herself. She's one smart cookie who gets to enjoy the fruits of her labor. More power to her. She's living proof that a black woman feminist can come from nothing to become one of the most successful persons on the face of the earth and she did it without stepping on others along the way.

I'm in no way a traditional housewife type and never have been. I don't follow a crowd but I agree with fans who say that Oprah has character and respectability that is far above the norm, and society would be a lot better off if more people were like her.

do i think Oprah is a god? no, but very close to it. As for do women worship celebrities more than men? no, just in different ways. How many men do you know that will spend hours talking about baseball or football players? how many men will paint themselves and stand in the bitter cold at a football game? that's equal to the women who read Oprah's magazine, watch her show or read the books she promotes to be more like her.

I think what people are responding to with oprah is her willingness to accept people for who they are and to improve themselves as people. Oprah also does a lot to try and make society a better place. She gives not only money, but time and energy to charities, causes and things she believes in; but she's also willing to take time and listen to the other side.

It's not just women and not all women love Oprah, I personally can't stand her. I know a lot of guys who are as obsessed with celebs as women CAN be. I don't care, it's their life and the only reason I even look at tabliods is to laugh at the headlines. Men do it too, many women are as independant if not more so but have their private indulgance of magizines. That obsession door swings both ways, you just usually don't see a man carrying around an Us Weekly as filler material for waiting.

You will find that the Oprah-worshipping cult is a minority of the female population, which generally relies on themselves or role models whose reps haven't been sullied by extreme popularity. I hope that isn't too much for you to comprehend, Generalization Boy.

I'm a woman, and I don't find Oprah to be all that great either. She's just another talk show host to me, just became more successful cause she's a damn good business woman.

Some women latch on to another to try and keep up with stuff they miss in their own lives, others simply want to be followers. Perosnally i don't like or hate her. Women want to relate to celebs cause the are glamerous and popular and thats what some women want to be.

Ha ha ha. Why do you care? You seem so annoyed by it. I love Oprah and no she is not God. I make my own decisions and I think for myself. She just has a likeable personality to many ppl. You don't have to like her. I don't like Regis and he has a lot of followers. So what's the problem?

*OMG - I am like, so shocked. Like, I thought you would totally love Oprah...I mean, she is like one of the wealthiest, most well known, influential women in the world. Oh, wait...*

I do not watch Oprah, I am too busy WORKING. Even if I weren't, I do not share the same insterests as she does...Celine Dion and Josh Groban, $500 pajamas and all that crap. I would never ever buy any of that crap.

Funny, I was just wondering why that question got so many answers too.

I don't find her annoying or repulsive, but I still don't understand why so many worship her. Good for her though, I wouldn't mind having that kind of cash.

I guess you're hoping to get the same amount of responses.

There's something about Oprah that feels phony. I can't put my finger on it though. I liked her better when she was poor. Now she's like a rich debutante. You know damn well she thinks she's better than we are. And yet these women still make her richer and richer. There's nothing you can't learn from the internet. I think we can do away with Oprah now.
