Easy. Because good fathers are few and far between these days. When people see a dad doing "dad stuff" they can't help saying something about it because it's so different from their own father or husband or whomever.

When my kids were babies and I'd take them out somewhere while my wife stayed home to rest, people were forever saying things like, "Aren't you a brave dad?" and I would always answer, "No braver than my wife is!"

I agree with you, it shouldn't be that way. All dads should be good dads, and then it wouldn't be so noteworthy. Nobody tells moms how great they are that they take care of their kids.

In a lot of situations the father is looked down upon. Society has placed this negative light on fathers, and their lack of parenting or even being around. That's just people overgeneralizing because I know single fathers who do great, and I know single mothers who do great. It's almost like society has lowered the standards on males and parenting, so that when a guy is doing his duty as a father it seems to be a big deal...

Yes it is, but I see nothing wrong with letting them know they are doing a good job.
Just look at all the women complaining on YA about the men who knocked them up and disappeared. Or the ones who left them and the kids when things got ruff.
Hats off to all the Moms and Dads who are doing their jobs.

Because it's so easy for them to not take care of their kids and to walk away from the situation. sure, it's morally wrong. But there are countless dead-beat daddy's out there. So for the ones who stick around---although it's their jobs to and it's what a parent is entitled to do ---they deserve all the credit they get.

There are so many rotten fathers who don't do their jobs that since I do my job as a father, I get lots of positive affirmation for that. Yes, I'm agreeing with you. It feels good to be in my position. I'm also white, so I pretty much have it made in this country!

I don't think having kids is a job. I think it's a privliage. And you know I don't tell me hubby he's doing a good job for talkin care of my child and I. I feel like we both do our share.

So many men run away from that job that those who stay deserve props.

That true, it is. I think its good to recognize a positive behavior. My ex-hubby didn't care at all about either of his kids, and there's my son, who will not make any plans that he can't take his kids to when they come over every other weekend.

Cuz most men dont man up to their responsibility! You should be extremely happy to have a man who takes care of your babys.. I sure am:) I couldn't have asked for a better father for my son.

Because moms are 'always there for us' and 'mom can do anything' so dad doesn't have to worry about it. When a dad does his 'job' of being a dad it's just more surprising that mom didn't have to do it because people always expect more from a mother.
