There is no tried and true, fool-proof way to jump start labor. I have had 4 babies, all born past their due dates by 9 days, 11 days, 5 days, and 7 days. I tried many different suggestions such as having sex, walking a lot, eating spicy food, driving down bumpy back roads, washing floors on my hands and knees, and nipple stimulation. Ultimately, each baby arrived when he/she and my body were ready. I have heard some women swear that one method or another worked for them, but I think it is likely their babies would have come whether they did these things or not. You can try the many Old Wives' Tales about ways to get labor going, but unless things are ready to go anyway, don't get your hopes up. Babies can be considered full-term anytime in the 37-42 week time frame. I am sure you don't want to hear it, but you could have as much as 5 more weeks to go.

I just had this conversation with a nurse at my OBs office yesterday.

Actually you are considered full term at 38 weeks and your babies lungs (the last thing to develop) will be fully functional. There is nothing wrong with trying to jump start labor at that point. I would say just wait a week and then try a couple of different techniques.

Some of the ones she told me about were some of the typical ones you hear, intercourse, nipple stimulation and lots of walking. But, a friend of mine who is a massage therapist also swears by pregnancy massages. There are spots on your legs and hands that can supposedly cause a woman to go into labor. If you decide to go that route, just make sure the massage therapist you go to a professional and is certified in pregnancy massage. She should NEVER massage your pregnant stomach with any pressure beyond a light touch.

Best of luck!!

I dont understand why everyone is being so rude about this question. You are classed as full term at 37 week's and the baby is fully developed then. I am 35 week's pregnant and I am not enjoying these last few month's so I no exactly how you feel. If you want to try to induce labour you go and try it... Good luck!!!

True. Baby will come when it's darn good and ready. They say that sex can induce labor. Talk to the doctor, though. It all depends on the health of the mother and baby.

My sister's baby decided it was warm in there and stayed and extra three weeks. She didn't want drugs or surgery, so the doctor told her to go home and have some sex with her husband (the doctor was sensitive and diplomatic about it, though). My sister had had a very robust and healthy pregnancy. So, her husband took her home, they shagged a couple times, then BAM! Back to the hospital to deliver a 9.5 pound baby boy! Poor kid was probably sitting in the womb like, "What the hell is THAT?!??!"

You can induce labor but it isn't recommended. Maybe your baby loves it in there and isn't ready to come out yet. And you know what I think (kind of naive), if the baby has all that stuff going on in there like getting food, breathing in all that liquid, fitting I guess comfortably in such a small place, they know when the time is right for them to come out. Next thing you know we go against nature and something goes wrong. It's like they know if they come out any sooner something is going to happen and that's why there are premature labor because if they wait any longer something is going to go wrong. Find something relaxing to do and don't worry it's only a couple more weeks.

O girl....i feel you! I'm 36 weeks on Monday, and i want to be induced!: ) It's my 2nd baby! With my daughter i had her at 37 weeks and she was 6pounds15ounces!!!! So it's possible! this time I'm having a boy! I can't wait.......to see what he looks like and 2 just NOT be pregnant anymore! We have that right! It's been this long! There's nothing that says you can't have your baby at 37 weeks! Actually a full-term baby is 36 weeks but no one tells you that b/c there excuse is that "your baby has to bake as long as it can" or "the baby will come when it's ready"!!!! Well what about those of us that want to have our baby's in our arms and not in our belly's anymore!!!! I'm ready!!! : ) Look it up on pregnancyweekly.com and you'll see your baby's just fine to come out at the point, and it's chances of survival are AWESOME!!!! : )
Good luck to you, and Congraz!!! Hope everything works out for you and your new bundle of joy!!!

Lots of walking (with a partner in case you do go into labor) warm baths to help you body relax, nipple stimulation, and sex are all ways to try and get labor started. if nothing works atleast you can get your christmas shopping done, relax in the bath and have great sex, lol. its not that much longer! gontrats and good luck!!!
